LUKE23 wrote:So, do we have any whey protein experts on here? I saw some at Costco for $40 for 6 pounds, and decided to pick it up for that price since many people have raved about it.

I'm not a rigorous workout guy, but lift 2-3 times per week in addition to basketball. Was trying to maintain body fat and gain maybe 5 pounds over a prolonged period. Not looking to get freakishly big (not that I could anyway).

I usually eat 3-4 eggs/toast/yogurt for breakfast and eat three decently healthy meals per day (sandwiches, etc for lunch, pasta based dinners). So how should I incorporate the whey protein into my diet? How much should I take? Only on workout days or every day?

If you're concerned about it, just start small and have a serving right after your workout. You shouldn't worry, though. It's not like you'll get huge overnight. When you get to where you want to be, go maintenance.

You still doing the 'size surge'? I started Monday.

Just jump in, man! You can do it. Also, you'll be able to commiserate with me.

I did deadlifts yesterday for the first time since before my injury, which was in July '10. Needless to say today has been a little unpleasant.

lol at creatine getting you "beefy" and being a short cut.

Protein every day, powder is just a convenient way of getting enough in.

Best creatine I've found:

http://www.kre-alkalyn.com/

No bloating, easy pill size and is pH corrected. Personally I can say it works and I've realized results.

I haven't tried all protein powders, but I'm still using the Isopure with success. Zero carb, zero sugar, zero lactose and overall nothing but positives. I have tried protein powders in the past that didn't sit well in my gut, but that is not the case with Isopure. No bloating at all and mixes pretty well with good taste.

http://www.theisopurecompany.com/en/powders

This has been a very effective combo for me and I usually play ball/lift 5 days a week.

So I have been doing the skawny, white man diet. I've been running 5+ miles 3x a week, 5-10 min of abs nightly, and a quick 25 min rotation of pushups, curls, and pullups 3 a week. Don't really have time for a gym since I work 50 hours a week and taking classes. Any suggestions on getting more toned? Don't really want to be a big guy, nor do I think I ever could.

Instead of doing 5-10 minutes of abs every day, I'd do this three days per week (15 minute workout including the cool down):

http://www.freeworkoutguides.com/workou ... er-workout

It's an absolute bear to start, but instead of doing the full P90X routine, I've been doing the above three days per week and mixing in lifting 1-2 days and have felt it has worked really well. It's better to destroy the muscles and give them a day of rest than it is to work them somewhat hard every day though (in general).

You should try that workout. It will probably take you a few weeks to get through all 15 minutes, but you'll get toned pretty fast. It works the entire core too, not just abs.

How is it on your back? I f'd mine up pretty good doing P90X back in Spring and I'm just now getting back to feeling normal. I also switched to straight running after I finished the P90X cycle. Overall I've dropped 35lbs since January and I'm up to 4.5-6 miles 3-4 days a week. I could barely do 1 mile without walking when we (my wife and I) started.

It works your lower back pretty solid, since a lot of the workouts are with your back off the ground/chest up.

What's up with the size surge, Luke? I'm halfway through week 2. Looking forward to this easy Wednesday workout in a couple hours.

I've been doing two days a week on the Break In. Going to destroy my body in Champaign this weekend, so probably do another week of that and then get started. It will be really hard for me to get 3 days in though. Wondering your thoughts on the benefit of doing it twice per.

Anything's better than nothing, but I couldn't tell you how much you'd stand to lose by skipping a day. All I know is that all three days works crazy well.

My guess is if you skip the Wednesday workout and keep the spacing the same on the Monday and Friday workouts, you'd still get stronger. The Wednesday workout is the short one, though.

Just completed it (sorta). Wow. Gonna try what you're doing, do it MWF in between some high intensity interval training.

Yep, stick with that DB, extremely fast results if you do.
