Players, for sure. They keep making concessions and league revenues are up... some businesses have been run poorly and there have been market shifts, but, instead of revenue sharing and the NBA negotiating better TV deals, the successful owners are using the sick- baby franchises to become even more successful.
Half a dozen agents have de-pantsed unqualified GMs for years, who the owners mistakenly hired, and the owners are basically demanding an upper-limit on the degree to which the GMs, who direct the market, can be bent over. It's a joke.

Not really. I enjoyed Michael Jordan's career.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

I think the agent wants a better system so the owners spend more on players (perhaps overpaying them) and agents earn commission through that. I don't think the agents get a share of BRI...I also don't know if the agents educate/brainwash the players to go for the system instead of the BRI...anyways, if you only have a choice of a bad deal and a worse deal, you take the bad deal and run.

Re: Who's side are you on? (Lockout)
The next time I am at a game having my $10 beer and $6 pizza slice, I'll be wondering if that counts in the BRI. Both sides are to blame, but I side with the players in this battle. The owners have been willing all along to forego the year.
I intend to live forever. So far, so good.

I like this quoting game
The NBA would have to come before the fans. You can't be a fan of something that doesn't exist.
The NBA is a successful development of a former league that grew because of the growing Fanbase

First, the average player, whose NBA income represents the majority of his life's money, and who is the biggest loser in all this.
Second, I respect the owner's right to make money. No NBA player is being asked to lose money to put on this entertainment, and they need to think about that hard and fast.
This labour negotiation is screwed because of the massive disparity in incomes between the players. No Union has memebers making 1/34 of what another guy makes. I have been involved in labour negotiations on both sides of the table, TBH, and these are the most messed up talks I have ever seen. Genuinely labour tries to find a ground where they are fairly compensated while allowing the owner to keep a going concern. These top-end players don't seem to be interested in that idea. They want as much as possible and damned to the small owners and average players.

Re: Who's side are you on? (Lockout)
Meh. I can't say I'm on either side.
Both sides could have done things differently to allow basketball to be played. I think Stern overplayed his hand with all the deadlines and the unwillingness to negotiate further at the 11th hour when a deal was close. Players are also at fault because they are purposely choosing to ignore the fact that the League must in some way restrict player movement in order for the game to be enjoyable and profitable. Stern wants too much BRI and Players want to build superteams.
The Players admittedly did make a huge concession of their number but the don't see why things have to change.
I just want a fair system and good basketball at the end of the day and I thought the last proposal in terms of the system was as 'fair' as they were going to get.

Re: Who's side are you on? (Lockout)
I have no idea;
Its hard to pick a horse in this race;
However I feel for some of the rank and file players four to five year career guys who are on the only money contracts of their careers and will end up losing a 1/2, a 1/3, or a 1/4 or whatever of their lifetime earnings would have been because their union decided to hold out for a better deal to facilitate the guys who will be in the league for 10 years.
I think the owners have a right to protect their investments, however it appears they want a deal which will ultimately protect them from their own stupidity as it pertains to contracts and player movement and seem to want assurances that teams in markets where there should have never been teams in the first place generate revenue.
At the end of the day they are both being reasonable in some respects and utterly unreasonable in others.

Re: Who's side are you on? (Lockout)
I'm on the owners' side simply because I'm a fan, specifically a fan who roots for a team that has trouble attracting players. My view isn't based on what's fair for one party or the other, nor is it based on spite towards either side for being too greedy. What the owners want is to make the league more competitive, which in turn will help my team, which in turn will make me happy. So I want that.

Re: Who's side are you on? (Lockout)
Mostly in my limited knowledge of the situation I've been on the side of the owners- if you own a business you should be allowed some chance of making a profit and competing even in a small market. I think that's really the bottom line.
As the lockout has gone on though, I can see the players have pretty much capitulated on almost every issue and yet still no NBA season. I feel like the owners should be the ones sliding a little here. Give up a percent or so of the BRI split or relax a couple of the system issues simply because on the players' side they feel already feel like they've given up a great deal already.
I think from a fan's perspective you'd prefer the owners to give up a bit of the BRI, but I have a feeling it will be the other way around.
