When you have a southpaw and a conventional fighters fighting each other, it happens quite often as well as accidental headbutts.

What is funny is reading all the stupid Pacquicao circle jerk fanboys in the comments.

True. Marquez could injure himself doing that. He could easily twist his ankle.

What's odd is why it seems like Marquez is always the one doing the foot stepping.

what's even more odd is how marquez is actually taking a further, higher, unbalanced stride every time he "accidentally" steps on pacquiao's foot and attacks simultaneously. and for it to happen 8 times in a 12-round match is really kind of odd. but hey, what do i know?

Here is an interesting thing about the fight.... For all the bs that we were talking about ring generalship, effective agression and blah blah blah... It was Marquez who imposed his will on the fight. Manny didn't get off like he did, and Marquez counter punching did a number on his output.

Code: Select all

Opponent    Punches Thrown    Per Round
Oscar De La Hoya    585    73.1
Ricky Hatton    127    63.5
Miguel Cotto    780    68.5*
Joshua Clottey    1,231    102.6
Antonio Margarito    1,069    89.1
Shane Mosley    727    60.6
Juan Manuel Marquez    578    48.2

Mosley ran all night long and Manny still avg over 60 punches per round.

You can't possibly think that a boxer would look down just to step on someone's foot intentionally. The moment you do that, you open yourself up to get hit right in the face by not paying attention. These guys get hit enough looking directly at their opponent as it is.

Yeah, look down. If your intention is to step on someone's foot, don't you have to look and see where his foot is?

Seriously? Soccer players don't stare at their feet, hockey players don't stare at the ice. Peripheral vision.

But those athletes train their entire lives to be able to do those things without looking. Like in dribbling drills where you intentionally look up and ahead while switching hands dribbling. It's not really peripheral vision as much as perfecting control and feel of your move, i.e. knowing where the ball is going to bounce up, how much the puck is going to slide with the amount of flick of wrist that you did, etc.

Stepping on someone's foot is not as easy, because you don't control the movement of your opponent. Unless it's something you've practiced before (meaning you're doing it intentionally), I can't imagine that you'd be able to step on someone's foot intentionally while keeping your vision up and away from it.

The more logical choice is that the stance of these two fighters, and their movements caused them to step on each other's lead foot every now and then.

There's no intent to do so.
