Because he's gotten plenty of "one more chance"s and he's consistently failed to capitalize on them. At this point, he is what he is, a talented 7-footer whose ego is so fragile that he's practically useless on a basketball court.

Has he really failed to capitalize? He has failed to run our offense but he actually played well defensively. A reduced role as defensive minded C would help him a lot. Can't blame him for Rambis wanting to run his offense through him which was a failure from Rambis. Should've known that he's not capable of doing that.

I don't disagree with your assessment at all but when was he given a fair chance by a competent coach? If I recall correctly the only time that happened was under SVG in Orlando, where Darko did a decent job alongside Howard.

It's Hayes by a landslide. The only thing Darko is better at is shotblocking and that only comes from him swinging at everything.

“I would love to stay in Houston. They gave me my first shot and I’m forever grateful for that. The fans and the community have embraced me and that’s why I would like to stay in Houston.”

"I want to be here. This is home for me. This has been home for me for six years. Houston is all I know. Houston is all I want to know.

"If teams are interested, I'll be flattered, but I know the Rockets will be interested, too. The Rockets have been loyal to me. I will show appreciation to them, too, and loyalty and let them know I want to be here."

Starting to think the only Rocket we can land is Battier.

"I came to coach Yao and Tracy, and ended up with Luis and Chuck." -- Rockets Coach Rick Adelman, lamenting the injuries and roster turnover over the last couple of years that has left Luis Scola and Chuck Hayes as the only remaining players on Houston's roster from when Adelman was hired 3 1/2 years ago.

We really only need a center. We have too many guys that need minutes right now, so unless we can consilidate some guys..I'm not sure we're really gonna see much money used in free agency. Hayes and Darko could be a nice pairing, but they'd have to be paired with a great scorer I think.

Why can't we have both?

Darko will probably go into a deep depression if he finds out he's coming off the bench and will demand to be released and go back home.

I bet Milicic would accept it. He’d still get 20-24 mpg, and would probably start in some games.

For 2-3 mil $ per year I would gladly welcome him. However, we can't add another backup Center for 4-5 mil. We already have Darko and Pekovic making a combined 9+ mil $ per year. Can't afford another C getting money in that range unless we trade one of the other guys.

Then again is Chuck Hayes really better than Darko? He might be a better one-on-one defender than Darko is but that doesn't take away that most Centers can simply shoot/dunk/layup over him without any trouble in the paint. Darko can at least still contest shots with his size.

I would pass on the Hayes truck and wait for a bigger defensive minded C to become available. Hayes is going to cost a lot of money and won't have enough impact.
Not to mention that he's not the shotblocking presence we need.
Our players get so often burned on the wing by opposing players that take it to the hole that we need a shotblocker in the paint to make up for it.
Just wait for Andrew Bogut to become available. The Bucks will one day finally realize that they're in the middle of nowhere with Bogut. We have enough assets to acquire Bogut and he could really help our team on court while making some additional merchandising money, too.

4-5 million is more than fair. We have Pekovic, but it’s like watching a bear play basketball. Center is definitely a position we can afford to upgrade. Ideally pursue Bogut first, but I would go for Hayes if you can’t pull off a deal.

I really don't believe Hayes is even an option, even if Adelman is the coach.

brian hill was actually the coach in orlando while darko was there and he was absoluetly awful aswell, he had darko coming off the bench behind tony battie who darko quite clearly was muchv more effective and better than.
