I wouldn't call any of it a core. They are all complimentary players, not players you build around.

Exactly

Nothing to do with being a pessimist. That core simply suck ass and acknowledging that is being realistic.

How can someone put Childress one of the worst contracts in the NBA as a good core player.

Gortat, Frye and Dudley are good role players and that is all we have.

Aside from your slanted viewpoint and chicken / egg mentality about our future I can easily include Childress as a 'core' member as I expect him to play and contribute over the next 3-4 yrs.

Perhaps the definition of 'core' is where we disagree.

I know you desire glitzy and glammy names and prospects to 'build around'. I look at what we have and say 'build with'. So yes, we have a very boring and workman-like-4-some group of role players as our 'core'.... and its costing us about 22 1/2 mill... allowing for significant additions in the free agency market.

However, I do get tired of you and others claiming Childress is 'one of the worst' contracts in the league. You are parroting so many hack writers who do not know or follow the Suns, or just flat out need to ax grind at Sarver to placate the masses and satisfy their editors.

Its easy chatter.

But I dont think Childress deserves that label. If you want to base your comments purely on production, you open a can of worms subject to many variations. Fact is , Childress didnt get the opportunity to play, for various reasons, mostly unrelated to talent. So, Lets just assume Childress can hoop like he did for ATL a few yrs back.

What I'd like to know is....how many 'worst' contracts are there ?

What kind of stats does Childress need to put up to not be a 'worst' ?

Is he top 10 ? top 20 ? Top 30 of the botttom ?

So to avoid you (MarJ) stammering around with your senseless myopia, I have taken the time to list out what I think are 'worst' contracts.Tell me who is on a better 'deal' than Childress. For the sake of fair comparisons, I have restricted this search to players with a minimum of 3 guaranteed yrs remaining.

Keep in mind Childress turned 28 in June.
He's inked for a whopping 27 million over the next 4 yrs.

In no particular order.... here we go.

My over thirty club :

Gilbert Arenus , age 30, $62 m / 3 yrs
Hedu Turkyglu, age 32, 34 m / 3
Richard Jefferson, 30, 30 m / 3
Shawn Marion, 33, 26 m / 3
Brandon Heyward, 31, 27 m / 4
John Salmons, 32, 24 m / 3
Drew Gooden, 30, 25 m / 4
Carlos Boozer, 30, 50 m / 4
Al Harrington, 31, 27 m / 4
Ron Metta Piece, 32, 21m / 3
Luis Scola, 31, 39 m / 4

My over rated club :

Ben Gordon, 37 m / 3
Charlie Villanueva, 24 m / 3
Andris Biedrins, 27 m / 3
Ty Thomas, 33 m / 4
Marvin Williams, 23 m / 3
Travis Outlaw, 28 m / 4
Andy Varajoa, 25 m / 3

My flat out over paid club :

Joe Johnson, 98 m / 5
David Lee, 65 m / 5
Rudy Gay, 68 m / 4
Chris Bosh, 94 m / 5
Ameka Okafor, 40 m / 3
Amare, 80 m / 4
Brandon Roy, 47 m /3

Yeah... thats right, I included a few 'stars'. :o Production doesnt always balance out the crippling effect a contract has on an organization. And nor does a huge paycheck always guarantee production.

who's deal above is worse than Chilly's $ 6.75 mill per yr X 4 ?

Who's is better ?

Did I leave any off the list ?

Have at it... I leave this open to all.
What ? Me Worry ?

I think the reason for all the Chilly hate is because people are afraid of the unknown. He was basically benched last season, so no one really knows if he has the ability to produce the numbers he did in ATL, or if he can fit well into our system. Because of this unknown, and his lack of playing time, people automatically assume he's the next Brian Cardinal.

I personally think Cihlly is overpaid. Not a contract that would cripple a franchise, but he is slightly overpaid. I dont think many people can argue with that to be honest. Contracts like Cihlly's are what contending teams would give out.. that extra "piece" to their championship. The most baffling thing about the Suns paying CHilly that money was:

A: We alrady had a logjam at SF.
B: We were in no position to contend at the start of last season.
C: A summer of acquring Hedo, signing Warrick to a bad deal, AND (slightly) overpaying Chilly was enough to send alarm bells through the fanbase and would've potentially crippled the franchise for a decade.

Sounds like Dudley will be our starting SG and I expect one of the biggest difference makers for the Suns

I'm going with the rookie Morris as well. Rookie expectations aren't immediately high for a mid round pick and next to Hakim he should look great!
