awesome fight indeed. it's a huge fight for both men since they both had solid winning streaks before their recent losses and two in a row would be awful.

according to bloodyelbow this will only be a 3-round fight which makes no sense. i also heard that all main events would be 5 rounds but i guess the ufc is going by a card-by-card basis with that idea. but that still does not explain why two exciting lightweights aren't getting 5 rounds.

Maybe it isn't actually the main event and the media is jumping the gun just because it is the first fight announced.

IIRC that happened with both UFC 139 and 140, with Belfort/Le and Mir/Noguiera being announced as main events, only to late be replaced by bigger fights.

It's a very good fight and makes a lot of sense, but I'm not yet convinced that it will be the main event of the first FX show. I would think they would want to make a bigger splash than that. Might not be much else available though.

Well, that's probably not happening, especially if Rampage fights Mo in Japan.

Rampage and Mo? I was under the impression that was internet fodder that is gaining steam for being just that.

Rampage is PERFECT for a Fox show, he can bring casual eyes in.

Maybe the most recognized fighter in the States behind Chuck.

As far as we know, there's nothing to Rampage vs. Mo in Japan at the moment. It's gained steam on the internets, but there's been no indication that the UFC is really trying to make that fight. Mo is still under contract with Strikeforce, and while we've seen that that doesn't mean much, I'm sure there are some hoops to be jumped through to break the contract, and they might not think Mo is worth it at this point.

I think they are waiting out Shogun vs. Hendo to give Rampage one of those two guys, if they can do it (would be a fairly quick turnaround). The loser would make more sense, with Rampage coming off a loss, but Shogun could make sense in either scenario since I don't think he would get another title shot with a win anyway.

Backup plan may very well be Forrest (though I've also heard Rashad's name linked to Forrest), and I think that fight would draw better in the US than Japan, so it would be possible for a Fox card. Don't know about FX though.

That's one thing I've been confused about. I keep hearing about the first Fox show being in January, around Super Bowl Weekend. Is this it? Or is there a Fox event AND this one on FX? Would be spreading themselves pretty thin at that point with Brazil on the 14th, this event, the Super Bowl Weekend event, and the two events in late February. I really hope they have scrapped that idea of having another event on the same day as the Japan show.

This is an FX card, not a Fox card. I would be shocked if the Miller/Guillard fight is not the main event. These FX cards are going to be on the level of the Fight Night cards on Fox, and you don't see guys like Forrest or Rampage on Fight Nights.

I know this is an FX card, but when they talk about the first show on the Fox deal being in January, around Super Bowl Weekend, is this it? Or is there this and another show on 'big' Fox?

Yeah. Similar to the stretch we're in right now.

At least this time it's a bit further out, so they should be able to balance the cards a bit more. However, they don't have a card in England to short with a Leben vs. Munoz kind of main event.

I'm interested to see how Guillard responds to his disappointing performance last time out. Many people were saying that he overlooked Lauzon and it sure looked like it. Actually both guys are in unique scenarios because they had long win streaks snapped. Bendo gave Miller a beat-down. Who responds better in this one?
