The Official 2012 Draft Thread

Post#1 » by vincecarter4pres » Thu Nov 17, 2011 4:17 am

Figured we should start a new one for the new season. :blank:

Well, the one good fortune of a potential full lockout is we'll probably wind up with a super high pick in a great draft.

I'll start with Jeremy Lamb.

What up 624?! :P

Hell yes to Jeremy Lamb

6'5 with a 7'4 wingspan and still growing......I've started to go full support of the lockout just so we have a chance at him.

He would compliment Deron perfectly.

The Rangers thought the same the draft after their lockout. With our luck, we may not either.

What's our cap situation before a Deron contract in 2012?

Well the NHL redraw was done different because they have 7 or 8 rounds, I don't see anyway it's done exactly the same.

I think it will be close to a lottery redraw with past 2 or 3 seasons records utilized.

I don't think the 10 best teams are going to even be in a lotto draw, I'm not sure, I was thinking of a complicated way to do earlier today though.

Don't know exactly what the cap will look like either cause the new CBA may change a lot of things including cap holds.

If we get the 1st or 2nd pick we go with Drummond or Davis.

But things really get interesting if we got say the 15th pick as well with the Rockets lotto protected pick. We'd have serious options.

If we could run away from the draft with Jeremy Lamb and Michael Gilchrist with say the 3rd and 15th pick I'd be the happiest man alive.

Imagine a line up of:

Williams
Lamb
Gilchrist
Any decent PF
Howard

I mean come on, we'd have Morrow, Williams, Brooks, Farmar on the bench.

Get rid of Lopez for a stud PF and its on!!!

I love getting ahead of myself hahaha

Gilchrist has Gerald Wallace written all over him, his offense is similarly wack.

I think our draft selection heavily depends upon whether there is a season or not.

If there is a season, and we do well (signing a PF is almost inevitable) and Deron hints at recommitting, then we'll obviously be out of the lottery.

If there is a season and we don't do well, D-Will probably won't come back and it may be better to take a PG to grow with Brooks and Lopez. Even though he may be end up the next overconfident and cocky PG, I think Marquis Teague's talent and potential are very high.

If the season is cancelled and we have no idea whether Deron will re-sign but we still have a top 1-2 pick, we go BPA regardless of the situation (and trade down if need be).

Funny, I don't like Teague one bit at this point.

I'd like to see a lot more of him before making any real judgements, but he reminds me of a poor man's Brandon Knight and although I liked Knight I definitely don't love him.

If there is a season and we still lose Deron, we're pretty much screwed. Even if we were bad, we'll never had been bad enough for a top 10 pick.

Also, I have optimism for Brooks but I'm not sold on this kid the way others are, I think if you get a combo of Nick Young and John Salmons consider yourself very lucky.

I do not see him as part of the core indefinite by any wild stretch of the imagination right now.
I'd ship him out in the blink of an eye for a plethora of players.

I think with Brooks, we either have the steal of the draft or we have another chucker whose FG% will be in the high 30s. (like Jordan Crawford)

As for Michael Gilchrist, even if he turns out to be a Gerald Wallace clone, thats not bad at all. We badly need a defensive-minded, athletic wing on our team. Plus, he's from Jersey.

I think [insert player we actually draft] will be the best overall player.
