One writer's shockingly terrible MVP ballot

A writer/blogger for the Dallas Morning News decided to publish who he voted for, and the results are abhorrent:

I will be providing an explanation on my MVP vote later this afternoon on the Dallas Morning News' website, but for now, here is my ballot:

1. Michael Young, Rangers
2. Justin Verlander, Detroit
3. Miguel Cabrera, Detroit
4. Curtis Granderson, New York
5. Jacoby Ellsbury, Boston
6. Adrian Gonzalez, Boston
7. Jose Bautista, Toronto
8. Robinson Cano, New York
9. James Shields, Tampa Bay
10. Adrian Beltre, Rangers

Verlander was just announced as the winner. Young finished eighth.

Just brutal... These guys who are given the honor to cast a vote are not suppose to show bias, but that is just rediculous... he should lose his future voting privileges.

This is funny though. Cabrera is a pretty decent comparable to Young, or would be if Young was on steroids (or on steroids-and-a-half compared to Bautista). He's emphatically superior. Destroys him in everything. They're both utterly atrocious fielders - only Young had the good fortune of DHing half his games.

I know Jose wouldnt get as much love because of the way we finished the year but he also did miss a bunch of games and still put up wicked numbers had the most walks since BARRY JUICE BONDS got the free passes when he hit anything around the batters box. What ever it will keep him wanting to do more next year =)

I was listening to a baseball writer talk to Eric Smith about whom he voted for in the NL and trying to validate his vote.
these guys are so full of themselves. their argument is pretty much this:
"I don't care if PLayer A has the stats coming out of his ying yang, but if his team doesn't make it to the post season, he doesn't get my vote."

a player's team going to the post season and a player's stats have ZERO correlation- ESPECIALLY in baseball, where offense is less of a team sport than in any other team sport. if a player is incredibly valuable and has real stats to prove it, then he should be considered the MVP.

This crap needs to change. Baseball is the sport where an individual player's effort matters the least in the overall scheme. Kemp and JoeyBats were both MVPs in every fashion in except picking their team mates.

my favourite excuse? Jacob Ellesbury doesn't deserve to be the MVP because his team choked at the beginning and end of season. doesn't matter what his #s are, but he was involved in a choke. like, really?
