alonso would be great. Id rather have someone who could help us more immediately, so we can take full advantage of bautista's prime. but alonso would be great nevertheless.

Deck and Thames for Yonder??

If he's not major league ready he's certainly damn close. I think Morrow for him would be a fair deal, but the jays are in no position to give up any sort of reliable starting pitching. The reds just don't seem to be an ideal trading partner at this point imo.

Thats what I was kinda thinking as well.

Also could Tampa be shopping Shields to Cincy?

Don't know anything about this guy. I would assume he is/was the guy that suppose to take over Votto's spot?

Maybe were looking at Alfonso and Phillips for the right side of the infield.

Wonder what it would take.

If we had a closer to send them, sure.

For a number two starter, though? Not on your life.

He's a 1B prospect. He can not field at all, so he has to hit. I'd rather trade more for an established 1B who we know will be productive. I'd rather roll the dice on Morrow 10 times out of 10 if that's who they want - and he's not even a reliable SP at this point. Romero is a #2.

His AAA numbers in the international league aren't otherworldly. His major league equivalency line wouldn't be encouraging. MLE (however accurate it is) accounts for current production and not future production, but how much upside is there in a 24 year old, 240+ lb 1B? You are who you are as a 24 year old 1B, no?

In his limited MLB sample, his contact rates were fine, but that shouldn't be enough to go on.

He's amongst the top 10 starters in the AL. He is hardly a #2. Give him some credit. He put up a sub 3.00 era pitching in the AL East and put up 5.9 WAR.

Romero was a bit lucky this year (.242 BABIP), he's probably more of a mid 3 era guy than a sub 3 guy.

Yes, if this is true, it's terrible news. Means that Cincy isn't moving Votto any time soon.

Which means we have to sign Prince or Albert.

9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

Sign a closer and then trade the closer for Alonso. I'd go for that.

We're not trading Morrow for him, though.

Yonder Alonso is quite easily the most overrated prospect we've seen in recent years, he's done absolutely nothing in the minors to deserve the hype, don't get too caught up in what he did in a small sample size in the majors. The guy has almost no chance of becoming a top 10 1B, i doubt he even has top 20 potential, i'd rather have E5 at 1B. Giving up a future ace in Morrow for him is crazy talk.

Methinks you're looking at Alonso's AAA numbers with PCL-coloured glasses. He was in the IL. Not that many guys his age put up those numbers last season. Only a handful, and all the rest of pretty good hitting prospects... Lavarnway, Juan Francisco, Cord Phelps. To be expected to put up big numbers and also actually do it is a good sign. Most players have one or the other of those characteristics.

Yeah, Alonso seems so overrated to me.
