He sounded truly upset and defeated by the end. The interviewer may be a douche himself, but I give him props for being the first person to make Sonnen STFU.

I haven't ever seen the interviewer before this, but Jordan Breen described it as two guys who are way too into their own schticks clashing with said schticks. Seemed pretty accurate.

I think it's a measure of how big MMA is getting that Sonnen got on with Landsberg. Not that he's huge or anything, but the show's audience is pretty mainstream.

I never finished the interview, but yeah, I knew where it was going. I can totally agree with the schtick v. schtick stuff. Although Landsberg really is that arrogant and obnoxious.

Ya, Landsberg is everything everyone said...but I can't say he doesn't have a spine.
In an era of pansys and company men, I have to say, he'll ask the questions that the majority of interviewers won't touch. He really doesn't care.

Plus, the guy has interview most of Hockey's greats. He's interviewed Vince Carter when he was arguably the face of the NBA, and when he was getting chased out of town with pitch forks. He's interviewed every wrestler imaginable and has had GSP and others on his show. He's not going to back down to a guy like Sonnen. Who's greatest accomplishment is ALMOST beating the champ.

I love Sonnen, but if you're going to dish it and you're going to put 'loser leaves town stipulations' and call out Anderson for not taking it on the spot, then you have to be able to answer legit questions about it. If you were joking, then when you called on it you have to say it. You can't tip toe around it and say next question and expect everyone to smile and say 'well of course!'. This isn't scripted entertainment. This is real, and guys like Anderson aren't into that type of stuff.

I don't know much about Landsberg, but that seemed a pretty simple instance of Sonnen trying to filibuster his way out of the initial question. He absolutely did back down from his initial challenge to Silva. He didn't want grief from some obscure Canadian cable show about it.

Did Landsberg seriously tell Sonnen to do some sit-ups at the end of it?? THAT is a douche move.

Agreed on both.
And ya, that sit up comment was total douche. Landsberg is going to tell Sonnen to do sit ups? lol please.

There are tons of good ones from Canada (Helwani, Ranallo, Breen off the top of my head), but I guess most of them operate out of the States now, or work for US-based outlets. Ranallo works for The Score at least.

I don't think this reflects poorly on the coverage of MMA in Canada. Landsberg's show is something that covers all sports (similar to a PTI/Around the Horn, but more interview based), and I think the fact that a mainstream show like that would have an interview like that with Chael Sonnen actually speaks to how good the coverage of MMA in Canada is. I can't say all that much about it since I am not exposed to Canadian media, but I'd say there's more mainstream coverage of MMA in Canada than the US.

Landsberg is still a smug douche though.

You're right, his show is more of an all sports thing. I'm being a drama queen because I can't stand Lansberg (or any of the guys on TSN, Sportsnet, or TheScore who cover MMA). I think the mainstream coverage still has a long way to go.

What does this topic have to do with Silva? LOL.

Why don't you like Showdown Joe? I think he does a good job.

Both guys were in the wrong in that interview. Chael needs to realize if he's going to say outlandish things he'd better anticipate being asked about said things. He didn't really give Landsberg much of a chance from the get go. Landsberg could've played it easy and kissed his ass, but he wasn't sure if Chael was joking or if he was serious (that's not the type of interview he does either). And before you knew it, the interview couldn't be saved. He lost some professionalism and it was obvious he was angry that he lost control of the interview and it turned into a pissing match.

One final thing I didn't like was when Chael said that Landsberg shouldn't be asking questions about Silva since "that fight happened 2 years ago", yet he shows up to the last event with a shirt that said "MEDIUM RARE" on it. Chael's world revolves around Anderson. He better expect at least one Anderson question per interview for the rest of his career.

He's hokey and overenthusiastic. He's done a lot for the sport in Canada, but I find his style to be too much.

True enough. I didn't like the part where he just infers himself to be the champion. Dude, you lost, get a hold of yourself.

It would still be pathetic if he lost a controversial decision, but Silva choked him until he TAPPED OUT. How much more decisive does it get? Sonnen can be clever and entertaining without making a joke of himself and the sport.

I'm not sure Sonnen has said one thing that he has actually meant dating back to the "I don't do bjj because its gay and I'm a republican" (paraphrasing) comments.

Remember when guys were speaking out saying he used to call and personally apologize for any trash talking after his interviews? I'm sure he's over that part of it by now, but it just goes to show you he really is 100% a troll (we all know this).

Again, I don't root for Sonnen or anything, but on the flip side I'd never miss a Sonnen interview or press conference, so he must be doing something right.
