NFL Playoff Races

Now's a good time for this thread considering ESPN brought back their playoff machine.

49ers have an easy schedule. 15-1 isn't out of the question for them. Their only game against a team over .500 after this week is Pittsburgh who they get at home. The rest is against the NFC West.

Would like to see some new teams in the playoffs and I think Cincinnati and Houston have good chances to get in as well as the Raiders.

Would like the Patriots to win against the Eagles this week. That would pretty much eliminate the Eagles from the playoffs.

I'd almost rather see the Packers play the 49ers in San Francisco than at Lambeau if they meet in the NFC Championship game.

Can you imagine Rodgers playing in San Fran in an NFC Championship game? The 49ers would be so ****.

I still think it's going to be Saints@Packers in the NFC title game at Lambeau.

I see #1.Packers #2.49ers #3.Saints as the top 3 seeds and the Saints win their wild card game at home and then beat the 49ers in the divisional game.

I don't think you understand what the weather is like in San Fran or where the stadium is actually located. I'd MUCH rather have San Fran have to come to Lambeau and deal with a deafening crowd.

Just because we did the road thing in the playoffs last year doesn't mean it's a good thing at all to be on the road in the playoffs. I want 2 games at Lambeau, then on to Indy.

Exactly. It's pretty much always a swirling wind at Candlestick Park and rain is fairly common in San Francisco in the winter. I'd rather take my chances at a frigid Lambeau where we're used to the weather and have the crowd on our side than having to throw in the wind and possibly rain.

I want home field for sure. People keep assuming we are some epically horrible team in the cold. That just isn't true, as was proved last year both at Lamebeau and on the road at Philly and Chicago. If the cold affects Rodgers at all, it's going to affect the other team's QB a whole lot more.

Cold weather slows offenses down. Keeps the scores lower. Its not that the Packers can't play in bad weather. Its just that this team is put in the best position to win in a dome or nice weather.

Didn't Rodgers put like 45pts on the Giants last year in damn near below freezing weather @ Lambeau? I'd rather the game vs the 49ers (or Saints) be in front of our crowd.

If San Fran was a dome, I could maybe buy the argument, although I'd disagree with it. With SF being outside and usually windy, no way.

If we have to play on the road/neutral site, then I always want it to be a dome, but I still would choose homefield over playing a straight away game.

As it stands, I don't think this debate is going to matter much. I think we will get the #1 seed, which means Lambeau and then neutral site dome (Lucas Oil). I also think that even if we do get the #2 seed (lowest we could end up, IMO), that whoever plays SF in the divisional round has a great chance of beating them (due to superior QB play), which means we're back in the saddle for homefield anyway.

But SF really isn't nice weather. That's the point people are trying to make. It's actually more likely to be **** than nice. So why wouldn't we rather play in the **** conditions that we are used to, that will affect the other team more, in front of our home crowd?

Oh, and my prediction for NFC seeding as of today is:

1. Packers
2. Niners
3. Saints
4. Cowboys
5. Lions
6. Bears

I really didn't want to put three North teams in, but I think given the schedules and talent of all teams, they are the two best shots. I think the Giants schedule is too tough, think they lose at New Orleans this Sunday, which puts them really only able to lose one more game with Packers/Cowobys * 2/Eagles/Jets still on the schedule.

I think the Cutler injury puts Detroit firmly into the #5 spot, but that the Bears also hold off the Falcons. If a team other than Chicago does grab #6, I think it is Atlanta though.

Of course, now Giants will steamroll the Saints and the Bears fall apart without Cutler.

I was at that Giants game and I was at the Bucs game this past Sunday. The weather in those two games was basically identical...right around 32 degrees or so.

When I said I'd almost rather see the Packers play the 49ers in San Fran should they meet in the NFC Championship I wasn't saying that because of the weather.

I was speaking in terms of Rodgers going into the home of his childhood team which snubbed him in the 2005 draft for Alex Smith and owning them (the 49ers) in a Championship game,it would be great theater.

With that said the 49ers don't scare me at all rain or shine.

San Francisco that time of year is a muddy track that could slow us down quite a bit. Although I don't know if they've improved things with that new field turf like they have at Lambeau.

Better to have the frozen tundra where our guys can at least run fast even if the cold and wind impact the passing game.

Agree with top 4 but i think atl slides in and Detroit out...

Remaining games:

Chicago:@oak, KC, @denver, sea, @gb, @min. I say 4-2, maybe 3-3 w the tiebreaker over atl.

Atl: mn, @hou, @car, jax, @NO, tb. 5-1 or 4-2. Gotta wait and see on how hou is w/lienart.

Det: gb,@no, Mn, @oak, Sd, @gb. Brutal. I'm calling 2-4..Could be 1-5. 3-3 at best. Atl has the tiebreaker over them, too.

We wouldn't clinch home field, we would clinch a 1st round bye. We could clinch home field with 13 wins if we lost to AFC teams and the Bears. Any other scenario where we lose three games though we lose the tiebreaker with San Francisco.

I can't see how this Packers team (unless we clinch HFA and rest guys down the stretch) does any worse than 15-1 and even if you say 15-1 you are being kind of pessimistic.

GIants on the road? Maybe we get a good game from the Giants but if Vince Young can lead the Eagles to a win in NY I really like our chances....lol

Raiders at Lambeau in December with Palmer at QB? no.

Cheifs? haha

Bears at Lambeau? no

Lions at Lambeau in December? no

Unless we lay an egg or decide to rest guys I can't see how don't go 16-0 at this point.

Going into the playoffs at 16-0 would make me nervous though,going back to last season that would make us 22-0 and we'd have to then go 25-0 to repeat.

Just by law of averages you'd assume you would be bound to lose at least 1 out of 25 whether you just get beat or simply have a bad day or lose on some fluky BS.I'd hate for the law of averages to catch up to us in the playoffs or Super Bowl.I'd rather see the Packers get that law of averages loss out of their system in the regular season.

If there was ever a team to bitch slap the law of averages though it would be this Packers team.
