Norv Turner most likely out in SD

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Tue Nov 22, 2011 12:10 am

it would require a "miracle turnaround" for Norv Turner to stay on as the Chargers' head coach in 2012. http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2011 ... ions-make/

I've never been a big fan of Norv Turner. I think he's very overrated as a coach at this point during his career, wait does anyone overrate him now? Anyway, It's going to be interesting to see what the future holds for him.

I honestly don't get how he's lasted this long.

I thought he should have gotten fired right at the moment where he called a time-out and then challenged a play. I mean wtf

Bill Cowher would be a great fit in SD. They got talent, they just need to play smarter, more disciplined football.

I agree with Bill Cowher and your post is short and sweet but very much the truth. San Diego has had a very talented roster for years offensively and defensively and I'm not ready to categorize Rivers as a Romo type player. I still think he is an elite quarterback that can bring home a championship. Cowher is that hard nose coach that can bring this thing together.

hard to be overrated as a head coach when nobody has ever thought highly of him to begin with. one of the greatest offensive coordinators ever though. id love to have him back in dallas after the season

the QB is the leader of the team. when he sucks, coaches get fired. theres alot of good things i like about rivers, but his accuracy is in question. hes more of a slinger and hope-er. slings the rock and hope it gets there. what it looks like is rivers has lost his confdence. his mojo. after that fumble/loss game the season seems to be lost and down the drain. so im not pointing at the coach at all. players have to make plays.

Should've happened after the last SD playoff loss, he isn't a postseason coach and now they suck in the RS too

I dont think there is something like a postseason coach in the NFL, its not like in the NBA when you have a best-of-seven and can adjust to match-ups and things after a game.

I think they would have a championship if they kept Marty. Norv is, was, and always will be a terrible NFL head coach and I thought it was a joke when they hired him.

If he wants to push another Schottenheimer out of a job, I wouldn't mind him on the Jets.

Turner's time is over. He's a good coach, though. Someone will pick him up next. Maybe as an offensive coordinator again.

Man he would be perfect for the ravens. Cam Cameron sucks and we need a new OC anyway.

This.

The Chargers job would be a lot more attractive if they fired AJ Smith as GM.

Not looking forward to the Jets hiring him. He'll make Sanchez look like a competent QB. Brian Schottenheimer is basically fired unless they win the Super Bowl and that's a tall task since they'll need a lot of help getting into the playoffs now.

Rex Ryan, Mike Tannenbaum and Woody Johnson had a meeting today on Schotty supposedly.

Always thought he got the credit that Hue Jackson deserved.

Chargers owner is trolling the fans. Norv Turner and A.J. Smith are staying.

I am more surprised that AJ Smith is back than Norv, but wow. Very strange decision by Dean Spanos. I wonder how he will explain it.

My cynical gut reaction is that he's trying to do exactly what Art Modell did before he took the Browns from Cleveland, get the loyal fanbase so ticked off and unwilling to support the team that it greases the skids out of town. It's a different situation but that's what I smell.
