That guy has caused so many problems it's unreal. I'm glad that he was pushed aside quickly so the nfl didnt lose any games.

Oh, I think everyone on this board will be interested in the details of the salary cap. Bulls fans know that their owner won't, under practically any circumstance, spend a penny over the nominal cap. So it is important to know what constraints apply to other teams whose owners are more inclined to spend a bit more than the cap -- e.g., Miami.

Why not start free agency like 5 days before camp? That makes very little sense to me.

Final note: What a **** stupid road to travel to get here.

Here's the NBA's proposal on Nov 10 ( http://assets.espn.go.com/photo/2011/11 ... oposal.pdf ). It will be interesting to see what changed for both sides to agree.

This was the tax proposed:
Salary Above
Tax Level............ Tax Rate
$OM - 5M.......... $1.50-for-$1
$5M - 1OM..........$1.75-for-$1
$1OM - 15M........ $2.50-for-$1
$15M - 20M......... $3.25-for-$1
= Tax rates increase by $0.50 for each additional $5M above the
Tax level (e.g., for team salary $20M-25M above the Tax level,
the Tax rate is $3.75-for-$1).
TGibson (1/28/17); "..."a 4 or 5 on a scale of 1 to 10 for drama"...What's the worst? "...yelling matches with Thibs, everybody is just going crazy and I'm just sitting there...like, 'Don't call my name please..."

- Owners won agreement per ESPN, Slam Dunk
- Players agree to 51-49 Split (ESPN Reports Players Receive 49% over 57%. Improved Profits Give 51%)
- Agreement still pending, need to write the agreement out.
- High spending teams lose advantage
- Luxury Tax is harsher (Extreme Tax at 85 Million or Higher)
- Draft, sge limit, drug testing) to be discussed on November 27 onwards
- No hard cap

Wait FA and Training opening on the same day? That doesn't sound too fair for the players who don't sign quickly. I would think FA would at least open a day or two BEFORE training camp.

I'm sure free agents and teams have been in the talks on the down low.

FWIW, in '99 the opening of training camp and the first day FAs could be signed also coincided (1/18/99). Sorry, but I don't know why they need to coincide. Probably just another one of those stupid legal things, Duck. :D

In '99, it was like 11 days from handshake to camp/FA signings. This time, it's 13 days. I can only guess that this difference is due to the fact that they can't clear the lawsuits for a couple days and because the union needs to be reconstituted this time around.

What about MLE and S&T for tax teams?

Those were the two big sticking points, were they not?

What are the options that the Bulls will have, under the terms of the new CBA, to add a free agent? I know my question is probably a bit premature until we know more information, but is my assumption that teams will be squeezed a bit more, meaning a team like the Bulls will likely have the same team returning outside of a minor tweek at SG (barring a trade)?

Also, is there any reason for optimism that the age of draft eligibility will be increased under this new agreement?

Just watched the press conference on NBA.com and while they weren't giving out details, Stern did say that the high-salary teams won't be able to sign FAs like they could before. I take this to mean that LT teams will have a reduced MLE.

A talking head on ESPN this morning said as much. The Union needs to "reform" and vote, which will cause the delay in the formal execution of the CBA, which is required for free agency to begin.

Makes sense. The Union was so formally and thoroughly disbanded with all the players, representatives and individual interests spread to the corners of the globe, that its a wonder they'll be able to reconstitute and vote within months, let alone days.

Huh? What are you talking about? We're already 7-8 million over the cap as-is, and have gone well over it a number of times before.

So ultimately the players agreed to a worse deal than they were offered a couple of weeks ago?

As relieving as it is to hear the lockout is unofficially over, the one thing I need to know is: Was it worth the missed games and money to get this deal?

Even though the details aren't known, the answer is a clear and resounding "No."

But you knew that already.

I assumed it. Just wanted some confirmation, since I wasn't following the details and numbers that closely.

I had a feeling I'd be pissed at the result of the lockout, whenever that turned out to be. It feels like I missed games because someone was too proud and ignorant to acknowledge what many were predicting: That, fair or not, the best deal the players were going to get was before games started getting cancelled.

For folks interested, NBATv is airing the entire press conference rather than just the excerpts they are showing on ESPN. A lot of it has already aired, but they might replay it again.

I believe the MLE will be set up into 3 different MLE's

Full MLE - Teams under the luxury tax that by spending the MLE, they won't exceed the luxury tax (Estimated: 5 Million Starting Off)
Partial MLE - Teams under the luxury tax that by spending the MLE, they exceed the luxury tax (Estimated: 3 Million Starting Off)
Lowest MLE - Teams over the luxury tax (Estimated: 2.5 Million Starting Off)

This is in no way 100% accurate, but this was mentioned a few weeks ago.

Also, I don't know how long the press conference was, but NBA.com has 17mins of video and it looked pretty complete to me.

Sounds about right. They started airing it at about 9:00 and its been over for a few minutes. Its pretty funny watching Billy Hunter and Derrick Fisher carefully pretend like there is no Union and explain why Evans and Fisher are even there.

At one point, Fisher messes up and mentions the "Players Association" as something in existence. I don't fault him for it. Its hard to consistently lie at a press conference about something everyone knows is a lie.

This is in no way 100% accurate, but this was mentioned a few weeks ago.

I'm pretty confident that this will be the basic shape of it. If anything, the owners might have given $0.5mil on the partial and lowest levels.
