Antoine Walker (Temporarily) Waived. Partying in Chi-VILLE.

So 'Toine gets waived because of "personal reasons":

The D-League's Idaho Stampede announced on Wednesday that former NBA All-Star Antoine Walker did not make the team's final 10-man roster cut and has been waived. The team's press release cited "personal reasons" for the decision and noted that the Stampede still hold Walker's D-League rights.

That turn out to be related to his gambling debt issues:

Quite the hullabaloo was made when former NBA All-Star Antoine Walker decided he was going to play in the NBA Development League last season. The same thing happened when it was announced that he was returning this season, but 'Toine's return to Idaho is currently in a bit of a holding pattern.

The 35-year-old was supposed to appear in court a couple of weeks ago for sentencing after pleading guilty to some gambling debt issues. His lawyer apparently worked out a court date for Dec. 6 instead as he deals with the casino issues in Vegas, but that date would seem a lot less convenient considering the Stampede will be beginning their first road trip of the season on that date.

Walker hasn't reported to the Stampede yet this season, however, and it doesn't seem like he will until after the court thing is taken care of -- considering he's planning on hosting two-day parties in Chicago (see flyer at right) when he is supposed to be visiting Bismarck, N.D., for a two-game series against the Dakota Wizards.

Yet amidst all of his legal, financial, and professional troubles is still finding the time to party it up in Chi-SITY. I can't believe I ever doubted this guy. 'Toine is really dedicated to making a NBA comeback...

He's the kind of guy who doesn't have any foresight beyond the next 5 minutes.

This guy is heading towards total disaster, within 5 yrs he'll either be in prison or living in a homeless shelter in some alley-way somewhere. Walkers inability to grasp the grim reality of his situation is unfathomable to me, having the time to throw meaningless parties while his life is a living mess is direct sign of a lck of self-awareness, intelliegence, foresight and immaturity. He probably knows deep down that his time is up so he's doing everything he can to escape from all of his problems. Sooner or later the party will be over(excuse the pun) and the creditors and legal offices will be calling.for his head.

I don't think so. He's probably getting paid to make an appearance like most 'celebrities' do.

And besides why not simply say Chicago? is it really necessary to type chi-ville, chi-town etc? Chicago is actually less letters to type. You aren't more cool for referring a city a different "street lingo" name.

I think with a few more years in the D league Walker will develop his skills enough to enter the NBA.

Come on dude, this is about how Chicago is not referred to as chi-ville. Quit derailing the thread.

Huh? The parts where I be at when I vist, Chi-VILLE is pretty standard terminology. Maybe you're just out of the loop, or not hip? :-? Or i'd imagine more likely that the terminology hasn't spread to all of Chi-Chi yet?

Do people really use the words "Chi-Chi" and "Chi-VILLE" or are you pulling our legs?

I've only spent a notable amount of time in the Humboldt Park and West Chesterfield areas as I have a bunch of friends up there so I can only speak from what I've heard from Chicago residents from some of the other posters in this thread it seems like Chi-VILLE and Chi-Chi (only heard one person use this and thought it was pretty funny  especially because they pronounced it "Chai-Chai" and Chai is a type of drink ) are specific to those two regions...

Not at all, I live by Humboldt Park and have never heard it. Just because you have 1 friend who says each of those doesn't make them widespread.

Chi-Chi I've only heard 1 person use by Chi-VILLE was MAD prevalent when I was in Humboldt over the summer. On the courts, walking down the street, casual street convo a lot of people were using it.

Me being an outsider I'm likely more attuned to these off-putting phrases.
