Siler?

Post#1 » by mybloodisorange » Sun Nov 27, 2011 1:28 pm

I'm the first to admit that im a sucker for underdogs and Garret wont ever be an allstar or most probably not ever even a starter on a weak roster. I do recall hearing about Siler and Gortat training with Olajawon over the summer; nothing bad can come of that for sure.

Now Siler is just happy to wear a jersey since he was undrafted so he can be had cheaply for sure and he is large with a good wingspan; but he has the metabolism of Oliver Miller without the passing skills. That being said if the guy continues to work hard and can get down in the 260 range I would like to see him get some backup center minutes. If he can condition himself to be able to handle 12 minutes per game in a shortened NBA season of 66 games with no preseason and (unfortunately) most likely no post season I hope he can do it. That would allow him to build confidence and conditioning as well while making Lopez even more expendable; giving us a valuable trade asset. Especially if his back has healed up.

Has anyone heard anything about big G's current conditioning? I'm hoping he stayed focus and worked hard and didnt get depressed and balloon up.

I did some looking around and everything I saw has him still listed at 300+ lbs. This either means he hasnt dropped any weight which to me means he isnt taking this opportunity seriously or he has slimmed down and nobody has updated any NBA player info yet due to the lockout.

If he shows up on the 9th in shape having lost 20 something lbs then he has a chance. If not it just shows a lack of dedication and/or an eating problem. It just amazes and angers me that anyone would choose a cheeseburger over a professional NBA career. Fingers crossed.

During the lockout he was training and scrimmaging at his old college, working hard and keeping his weight down. I believe he has lost even more. Considering he's lost about 100 pounds in the last year and a bit, he seems pretty dedicated

No sh^t. Assumptions continu, just to fuel what if cagepokes.
Mt Siler is still a legit project, but to expect that bigman to get to 260 is crazy.

You're right 280 is probably a more realistic target. His main weakness is lack of speed and mobility so the lighter he gets the higher his ceiling gets. I'm really pulling for him after what happened to big O.

I have a feeling he's similar to Eddy Curry. Decent back to back guy, can shoot, tough type of dude (Curry doesn't give a **** but still).
