How we get our center and point guard (potentially)
Step 1 - Sign Samuel Dalembert for the MLE
Step 2 - Retain Mario + Sign Morris Cole
Step 3 (Atlanta) - Amnesty's Marvin Williams to get rid of his yuck contract, re-signs Jamaal Crawford for 8 million
Step 4 -
Miami trades - Mike Miller + Joel Anthony or Norris Cole or Mario (Gotta give something to get something)
Atlanta trades - Jamaal Crawford
Step 5 - Sign one of the savvy vets VC/Prince/Ak47/Hill etc
You end up with a rotation of
Jamaal Crawford / Mario Chalmers / VET PG?
Dwyane Wade / Vince Carter / Eddie House
Lebron James / Vince Carter / VET SF?
Chris Bosh / Udonis Haslem
Samuel Dalembert / Joel Anthony / Dexter Pittman
Why Miami does the trade -
We gain a point guard who isn't afraid to score and run an offense. Miami's main problem last year was that the point guard didn't run the offense and simply deferred to Lebron and Wade too much. We've got a guy who can create his own shot, hit the big shot, run a offense, the only problem is his defense is a little suspect. But if we were able to retain Mario and not trade him he can come in for specialist defensive situations.
Why Atlanta does the trade -
They release the terrible contract of Marvin Williams and thus putting themselves well clear of the luxury tax. Jamaal Crawford has much hinted that he is going to leave Atlanta so as well as getting something in return for him, they get a guy who will fill the void and can start as small forward for them. Mike Miller will space the floor for Joe Johnson and show why he's worth the MLE he was given a couple of years ago. They can take a young guard with potential, along with the trade and have a good young point guard rotation for the next 5 years.
If anyone doesn't do the trade it's Atlanta, and I might be being to biased for Miami but yteah, tried to make it as beneficial as I could for Atlanta.

I don't believe you can use Rio in a sign and trade right after he signs. Also sign and trades are rarely done.

Meh, David Lee, Lebron, Bosh etc. I know the latter two are not really legit S&T but they were still.

Re: How we get our center and point guard (potentially)
I really dont think Jamal Crawford is a realistic option for us, especially with him wanting to be in NY or NJ where he can sign outright.
I would think if we can get a serviceable vet or two like Tayshaun Prince, Shane Battier, Tracy McGrady, Grant Hill, AK47, Delonte West (Who I think would be ideal despite all the Gloria James scandal and bull) that would make Mike Miller & Mario Chalmers tradeable for a PG.
I'd sign Dalembert, Delonte and Prince and Curry.
Chalmers/(West)/Cole
Wade/Miller/House
James/(Prince or Battie)/Jones
Bosh/Haslem/Anthony
(Dalembert)/Pittman/(Curry)
With West, Prince or Battie in the lineup, Miller + chalmers can be packaged for a PG if its even necessary. I think this lineup would work however.

Ok, I got the fix for ya's.
Sign Daly for the MLE.
Resign Mario. He is your starter and plays decent defense with all the ball handlers here. He earned this after last season.
Sign these vets to Minimum Veterans contracts:
TMac
Delonte West

Re: How we get our center and point guard (potentially)
I don't know how realistic it is to move Rio, given he's Spo's project. I also don't know if I want us taking on Crawford @ $8M. That's a lot of money for a chucker who came off the bench. You know Rio has just as much balls, and might be more accurate.
I do like Crawford's handle, but we'd be trading a long guard who can rebound and shoot the 3 in Miller, and a loveable, bonehead PG who doesn't shy from the moment in Rio for Jamal Crawford's questionable defense, nonexistent rebounding and boundless confidence. I don't think that's a fair trade.
His particular skills might be a bit better than either one of them, but combined, Miller and Rio bring a lot. Only problems with Rio are his terrible handle and inability to stay in front of the quick PGs. Crawford only really brings a better handle. Spo will have to coach defense out of him that he never showed before. PEACE.

Make this move and this team is in the same predicament it was last year, maybe even worse. Where is the bench scoring in this grand scheme? A healthy Haslem is probably good for 12 a night but who else, we're gonna move Chalmers & Miller for a chucker at PG place our faith in Vinsanity off the bench? Horrible idea

Re: How we get our center and point guard (potentially)
Jamaal is not needed on this team....
Spo preaches defense out of his @$$ and Crawford is not defensive at all.
He is also a chucker, like someone else said.
We already have 3 stars fighting for the ball, can't have another guy demanding it too.
Mario and Cole are fine with me to be honest. I'm excited to see Cole, and his defense.
Also this season we'll finally have a healthy Miller (we better... or something is wrong...) and Haslem. Miller is really good when he's healthy. I mean all we need is a starting Center. Hopefully Pittman plays as Center or something for the bench, I want to see him out there too. Joel's 0 0 3 box score is not something I'd personally like to see next season. Heat have lost so many close games, and that was one of the reasons. I'm aware he was a pest for the other teams, but he is too short for Center.

Jamaal didn't play well with all the shooters in New York. This is why he has only been used OFF the bench for instant offense his whole career.

Re: How we get our center and point guard (potentially)
I just read an article on ESPN by Brian Windhorst saying we might still have to amnesty Miller.
I say, if thats the case, we should instead trade him for dalembert (s&t) and amnesty Joel. Sign Varnado to replace him at a discount. Use MLE on vets.
Amnesty Joel Anthony
S&T Miller for Dalembert
Resign Chalmers
Sign Norris Cole
Sign Delonte West
Sign Battie or Grant Hill (Biannual)
Sign Tayshaun Prince (MLE)
Sign Jarvis Varnado
Sign Eddie Curry (But also look and see if Kwame Brown is doable)
Resign James Jones
Chalmers, West, Cole
Wade, Battie (or Hill), House
James, Prince, Jones
Bosh, Haslem, Varnado
Dalembert, Pittman, Curry
If West dont work, I guess Bibby. Also Jamario Moon is worth Consideration as an alternate 3/2.

Amnesty Joel? Sign Delonte? Sign Hill or Battier? Sign Prince? Sign Varnado? Man what are you smoking and where can I get some of it. Best case scenario this team adds a quality center and one piece on the wing, not two. And You can count on Varnado not being on the roster

Re: How we get our center and point guard (potentially)
how is that smoking when miller might have to be sacrificed anyway?
trade miller to get your center... Amnesty Joel and pick up two vet wings...
I think its a better deal than just using amnesty on miller who we already got at a discount and still having to pay part of his salary just to be able to use all of our exceptions. (MLE, Biennial). Joel is on the books for as long as Miller only makes a little over a million less, and is less of a trade asset.
Get rid of both contracts and get our center. Joel is replaceable by Varnado for cheaper. We can always pick up a couple of wings to play behind lebron and wade.

There is no chance in hell that the Heat amnesty Joel. He is a bargain at his price and a key defensive big. I could see Riley laughing his butt off at this one.

LOL I'm laughing my butt off at Joel being a bargain. Joel is barely good enough to be in league. If we really plan on upgrading our weaknesses, Joel should barely even see the floor.

If you don't think Joel is good, you only know basketball from the boxscore. If you watch the games he pretty much dominates every intangible category. His positioning and rotations on defense are probably the best in the league, or close to it. He's also a good shot blocker. He's a great energy guy to bring off the bench behind Dalembert.

I bet just about all 29 teams would trade for Joel at his price tag if he was on the market. Heck, he is better than half the teams starting Center as is. He is not needed to score, but to hustle and play defense. He did an excellent job in the playoffs last year considering his abilities.

Re: How we get our center and point guard (potentially)
All you guys are dismissing my original post because it has Mario potentially being traded. But he wasn't the final guy I put in with Mike Miller, I ended up trading Cole because he's younger and probably wanted more by Atlanta. Check the final rotation I put Chalmers in there.
To answer another question the scoring off the bench is provided by Mario/Hill/Udonis (If Mario starts on the bench) or if we want to keep Jamaal comfortable put him on the bench and wham you have a great 6th man.

Joel is an offensive liability to the max. Joel forces the Heat to play 4 on 5, he isn't a threat on pick and roll because he can't catch. He's not a good shoot blocker, he's an average shotblocker. He is not even a good rebounder. He his only good for guarding Amare.
He's a hustle player, and hustler players always look better than they really are.
