2012 Draft Talk
Even though we don't have our own pick...we may have Utah's or we could still be in the hunt for some sort of player using the 2013 Memphis 1st, or a player(Beasley, Randolph, Wes, maybe even Derrick Williams).
Some centers I'm looking out for...
Obviously Andre Drummond.
Steven Adams after reading his DX profile seems intriguing. Decent athlete, has a bit of a jumper, really raw and only 18. Only played bball for 4 years.
Rudy Gobert is also someone I'd like to see more of. Really long, agile, runs the floor, and an overall good athlete, really skinny though.
Festus Ezili and Lucas Noguiera are still guys to keep an eye on too...although I don't think Noguiera has the desire to play.
I'd still love to get Anthony Davis too, he has the length to play center..but that's a pipe dream.

Re: 2012 Draft Talk
I think I would rather trade our picks + Webster/Pek/Miller for a proven talent.
Who might that be? I'm not sure.
I feel we have enough young talent and the next chapter is to add proven players that fit with our core.
Who knows, maybe we can move one of our core pieces plus the two draft picks for a top 5 pick? The age limit could potentially increase as well so that could change everything.

Re: 2012 Draft Talk
Yeah, I don't think the team needs another young guy. I'd rather do something like Webster and Miller for Okafor than try trading up in the draft, which is usually hard to do.

Re: 2012 Draft Talk
stephen adams won't be in the draft as he's going to pitt...but we're definitely taking him next year so i can have a kiwi connection to the team
brad beal is my wet dream of this draft...maybe he drops out of top 10 and we find a way to get a pick...utah will surely be in the lottery again thus not giving us their pick.
hopefully we can snag tomas satoransky late in the 1st or in the 2nd round...he's been my favourite international player(outside of jonas) for the last few years...he'll be a huge steal.

Re: 2012 Draft Talk
I agree with most of you that we should try to add a veteran, similar to what ATL did when they had those young teams and then started to play good basketball once they got Mike Bibby. Webster and Miller for Okafor would be cool with me. I think that'd probably be our best bet at getting a good center on the cheap because of him being slightly overpaid, and new orleans being cheap.

I'm sorry, but there's no way the Hornets are trading one of the best defensive bigs in the league for an inconsistant player who has serious back troubles and a corpse of a player.

If you're looking at Centers, then Meyers Leonard should definitely be on your list.

I think the point would be salary relief, not the players they're getting back.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

I'm hoping the draft eligible age is raised to 20, make the college game better and we won't feel as bad giving up the unprotected 1st this year

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt

I would probably include Anthony Randolph to get the deal done.

Good call. Overlooked him, but he has some nice measureables for sure.

Re: 2012 Draft Talk
Okafor is a lot more than slightly overpaid.
$12,792,500 $13,790,000 $14,787,500
Yikes. For a guy who'se regressed big time (hasn't cracked 11 PPG or 10 RPG since '08-09)
If we are going to take on an overpaid player and/or send out young talent/picks
I'd rather it be for a guy like Bynum, Bogut, or Iguodala.
And if the NBA-owned Hornets start salary-dumping players it is going to create a firestorm among owners/coaches/execs. They need to get that team sold ASAP or just pony up the dough and contract them.

Iggy would probably be the closest to Okafor in value....but we don't need another wing near as much as a center.
He had 10 points and 9.5 rebounds last season in just under 32 minutes, pretty good numbers...especially when you add in that he was shooting 57% and blocking 1.8 shots per game.
The hornets are 3 points better on offense and 3 points better on defense when he's on the court, so I'd say he plays an impact in the game.
If we wanted to go get a couple of veterans on the cheap...Iggy and Okafor could be possibilities...only trouble is that would raise our cap figure a ton.

Re: 2012 Draft Talk
Just gonna throw some things out there.
Okafor($12,492,500), ($13,490,000), ($14,487,500)3rd year is an ETO
Iggy($13,531,750), ($14,718,250), ($15,904,750) 3rd year is an ETO as well
If we got both of them in a trade....lets say...
76ers OUT: Iggy($13,531,750)
IN:Wes J($4,006,080) + Pekovic($4,503,600) = $8,509,680
T-wolves OUT:Wes J($4,006,080) + Pekovic($4,503,600) + Beasley($6,262,347) + Webster($5,256,000) + Brad Miller($4,752,000) = $24,780,027
IN: Okafor($12,492,500) + Iggy($13,531,750) = $26,024,250
Hornets OUT: Okafor($12,492,500)
IN: Beasley($6,262,347) + Webster($5,256,000) + Brad Miller($4,752,000)
How close would this be to value? NOH would take on a little salary this season...but Beasley will be a free agent, and they can cut both Webster and Miller and save almost $10m next year. This would leave us with...
Rubio/Ridnour
Iggy/Ellington/Lee
Derrick W/Lazar Hayward
Love/Randolph/Tolliver
Okafor/Darko
I think we could find another trade somewhere trying to flip Tolliver for a backup 2/3 like a Raja Bell or something, but how good could that team be? It would depend soley on what Rubio, D-will,Love, Randolph can become...and what we could get for that Utah and Memphis 1sts. Thoughts?

Some athleticism, little bit of a mean streak as well. Could be a good find in the later if we have the one-and-done or maybe snag him at the end of the lottery with Memphis/Utah? pick if two-and-thru is included in the new deal.

Skeptical that Philly does it. I love any trade involving Okafor, since you don't have to give up a lot of assets like you would have to with Ibaka.

I was thinking Philly would be first to decline as well. They would save about $5m immediately, and they could start the rebuild with Holiday, Turner, WJ, Brand(who will be a big expiring next year), Pekovic.

Re: 2012 Draft Talk
I wonder if at the deadline we would be able to take on a contract to get a team under the lux while getting a 1st rounder out of it. This draft has a lot of potential guys at SG and Center. If we could add Bradley Beal or Lamb that'd be really awesome.
