I will definitely be watching college basketball religiously this season.

I need a team to root for. Is there a perpetual loser that will show some glimmer of hope this year, then break my heart with their pathetic play and/or behavior?

You need look no further than the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers.

Most definitely a quality choice. Recently it's been both play and behavior. This team seems pretty stable though, so it'll probably just be the play that breaks your heart.

Yeah guy can defend, box out well, and get to the rim. He looks bigger than 6"10 and plays more like a center.

As suggested earlier, the Gophers are a decent choice. The backcourt's young and inexperienced, but it got a definite talent upgrade from last year. They're deep and big up front, and if Austin Hollins in particular can knock down outside shots, they'll be dangerous.

Fred Hoiberg's got an interesting team at Iowa State, headlined by former Gopher/burglar/hip hop producer Royce White and a couple other Big Ten refugees Chris Babb (Penn State) and Chris Allen (Michigan State) (5 of the 6 guys getting more than 20 minutes per game are transfers).

They aren't a lock to do anything, but Babb and Allen were solid Big Ten players, and White's a guy who has 1st round talent if he manages to get out of his own way. There's also a Wolves connection with Hoiberg.

I know this will be an unpopular opinion, but I think Ralph Sampson would be a good fit at center in Adelman's system. Great in the high post as a passer or shooter.

I have student tickets to the gophers and while I'm excited about the emerging talent in the back court these first few games have been ugly. I like Dre Hollins and I think he will settle down and be a good four year starter for the team. I think Ralph Sampson would have too much trouble rebounding in the NBA. He'd be like Blount part 2. I don't see Rodney Williams ever putting it together. He might get drafted because he can jump, but that can only take you so far.

what the hell is up with drummond? i'd never seen him play before but heard he was the next BIG thing that will come to the nba, a lock for a top 2 pick...comparing with either amare or dwight...it's early but he hasn't done very well...he has only 7 defensive rebounds compared to 6 turnovers and 12 fouls in about 60 minutes on the season, also only shooting 41% from field and 29% at the line...again, it's very early but i thought he could have dominated on physical talent alone, especially against weak teams they have played. on the other hand, anthony davis looks absolutely filthy.

For all the talk of the class of 2012, I just don't see much superstar talent right now. Davis looks brilliant, but even then, I'm not sure if he's a "superstar"/franchise talent or a top of the line second banana. Does this draft have a Rose/Wall/Durant/Griffin/Lebron?

Could Drummond's struggles be attributed to the mask he's wearing?

I'd say right now Davis looks like a guy that could anchor a defense and develop a nice offensive game. I'd say that at this point Davis and Miller have shown they might have superstar upside, although they still have a long way to go towards getting there. Kidd-Gilchrist looks like he could be a top of the line 2nd banana, almost a LeBron-Lite. Beal and Kabongo also look like lottery caliber talents. I haven't seen enough of Drummond, Rivers or McAdoo to even make a ridiculously too early call on them. Teague has NBA bloodines and the Calipari pedigree, but I haven't been that impressed so far.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!! Trevor Mbakwe is out for his senior season! This Gophers team will never catch a break. For terrible for the guy, this was supposed to be a big year for him.
When luck shuts the door skill comes in through the window.
