At least this new regime is going to make a smart move and unload Iggy. This team needs to get ET on the floor at the SF spot. Let him play some point forward if needed. And with a scorer at the SG position. Along with Jrue. It should be nice.

they arent going to dump Andre tho. If they dont get what they want...they wont move him right now. They would just sign a center like Kwame and get rid of Nocioni and Speights. But they are at least trying to move Andre now. They realize that Turner wont take the next step in his career until Andre is gone.

That makes sense.

Dumping your best player would be dumb as rocks, but moving him for a better fit when you have a younger cheaper guy with a similar skill set to replace him makes infinite sense. I like Martin a lot better as Ellis would be another guy who wants the ball in his hands all of the time. Martin would allow Holiday and Turner to be the primary ball handlers and is so efficient. Not great on D, but if they shore up the middle that can be covered for a bit.

I would love to get Matthews too, though Batum has consistently been off limits and the salaries really don't match. Not sure who the third team in would be.

My preferences would be Matthews, Martin and then Ellis.

How has Prince been as a defender lately? I know the past few seasons in Detroit have been pretty bad, but would he be an acceptable defensive specialist replacement if AI2 is traded?

Interesting. Thanks for the info.

Glad to hear that Martin is a primary target. Ellis isn't a bad plan B for Iguodala, but I'm not sure its more than a lateral move. Still not high on Kwame with the MLE, but I suppose they could do worse. I'd keep an eye out for Haywood/Biedrins if they get amnestied, even though they'd more than likely get snagged up by contenders.

I'm also intrigued by the idea of adding Prince with the MLE in the event that we trade Iguodala. Helps soften the defensive loss and gives us another athletic wing.

Sixerfan76, I understand that from reading these boards for a while, that you are a fairly credible source inside the Sixers' organization, but if what you tell us about Iguodala is true, those trades involving him do not excite me at all personally. How are the likes of Kevin Martin and Monta Ellis going to get us any closer to teams like Miami, Chicago, Boston, New York, and Orlando in the East? The way I see it is that the only way that this team can become a true contender is if they unload Brand and Iguodala for cap space, draft picks and young players and start from scratch. Let's face it fellows, Dwight Howard has about a snowball's chance in hell of signing here next year so I don't understand why many of you are banking on him doing so.

According to many, this upcoming draft is loaded with quality big men that we need like Drummond, Davis, Sullinger, Jones etc. so we might as well do what it takes to become a player in it. If Iguodala can land us another lottery pick, I would be all over that, and a core of Holiday, Turner, and our big men from the draft will have a very bright future, especially since by the time that they are ready, teams like Miami and company will be past their primes and thus we won't have to worry about them too much.

I was hoping that unlike the old ownership of Snider and company, this new ownership would at least have the balls to bite the bullet and start the rebuilding process, but when names like Kevin Martin and Monta Ellis are being thrown around for Iguodala, it makes me think otherwise.

This "Let's make the playoffs at any cost" mentality is a real pain in the behind to deal with as a fan and it sickens me.

SF, have you heard anything about them exploring trade possibilities with Lou to target a big man? That would help balance the playing time between Iguodala, Meeks, Jrue, and especially Turner, while possibly being able to net some half-decent front court help.

I still think we are in the rebuilding process. We just happened to make the playoffs last year. I don't want to blow up everything and start over again. I like this young guys on this team and want to keep them for the most part and add to what is here.

Dumping Brand/Iggy for cap space in 2012 doesn't make sense to me because D12 is NOT coming to Philly and I don't see anyone on the list of potential FAs that excites me (and that we would have a legit chance to get) in a position of need - and you know that Paul, Rose, Westbrook, and other stud PGs are going where the glitz is (NY, LA, Chi, etc.).

For this team to move forward they have to look towards the futre and not worry about getting the 7th seed. Iggy has to be moved. This team does not draw fans making the playoffs with the 7th seed. I hope the new ownership knows this. This team will get better with letting ET and Jrue being the main players handlinf the ball. Iggy is a ball hog and any touches he gets takes away from Jrue and ET. This team doesn't need to make the playoffs with the 7th seed. Just make a trade or so and start to unload salary for the future.

The fans that currrently don't show up and support the Sixers will not miss Iggy. ANy trade would make this team more exciting. Addition by subtraction. ET needs to play more. ANd Jrue needs to be the majot ball handler.

sixerfan1976 wrote:they are exploring trades of iguodala for a center or a SG. If they get a center, they want to sign tayshaun prince for the midlevel. If they get a SG, they want Kwame Brown.

They want meeks to be the backup SG and turner to start....envisioning instant offense off the bench of Lou,meeks and Young(and probably Hawes). If they acquire a SG, they have no problem with Turner starting at SF.

Speights will be gone shortly after transactions are allowed. The return is not expected to be much. They are comfortable with Allen,Vucevic,Brackins as the backup big men other than Hawes. Nocioni will either be amnesty'd or bought out. He doesnt want to be here.

Their first target at SG is kevin martin, Monta is 2nd, but front office folks question whether he fits here.. Wesley Matthews is of interest to them but that one would probably take a three teamer to do. They also like Batum but Portland doesnt want to move him. They envision Martin as the perfect fit here but no idea if the Rockets are open to moving him.

I dont know any names at center, but I agree with others that Utah may be a fit.(just my opinion)

Martin is a very interesting name. He'd be our most efficient scorer since... I guess Wilt's '67 season. Absolute abomination on defense though. With Holiday and Williams being below average and Turner really being a black box that could be disastrous. Certainly would prefer him to Ellis.

Another good thing about him is his deal is a year shorter so that it expires the same year as Brand. If it doesn't work out, you can let Martin and Brand walk at the end. Hopefully whatever center they would pick up wouldn't get longer than a two year deal as well.

If they deal Iguodala, I have a feeling I'm not gonna like what they get back for him. I don't like this teetering in the middle crap. If they want to win now, move Turner instead, who I think would garner a bigger return. If they want to look to the future, try and get that T'Wolve's lotto pick from the Clippers or a good YOUNG piece from someone else... and most importantly, amnesty Brand after you do so. Pick a direction and commit.

Trading Turner coming off of last season isn't going to get you much. He is no longer the reigning NCAA POY and second pick in the draft, he's a guy who struggled as a rookie and wouldn't go top five in a re-draft at this point. He is looked at by a lot of NBA writers/columnists as a future 'solid' NBA player, and those are the kinder ones. Hopefully he is under rated now and will have a great year this season, but his trade value now is much lower than it was on or before the draft last year and likely lower than it will be in the future. That would be the definition of buying high and selling low.

While I understand why some want to trade Iguodala, I wouldn't exactly be in a hurry based on some of the guys I have heard in return. Even if K. Martin is a better fit for example, is the team really that much closer with a guy like Martin? The guy is a complete defensive sieve while playing for a coach who preaches defense. Barring Philly getting a defensive stopper at Center, are all of us really ready to see the perimeter defense suffer knowing that S. Hawes is behind them as the stopper?

Meanwhile, Iguodala played tired and hurt the entire year last year. If he is truly rested and healthy, what's to say you won't get much more for him at the deadline? At the same time, I realize that some believe that Iguodala is standing in the way of Turner, but what if Turner is nothing more than an adequate player even if we are all praying for something else? Anyway, I would understand trading Iguodala, but I would want to really come away happy with the deal. Otherwise, I would keep him and revisit it later because I could easily see him improve on last year since he wasn't beaten down all summer long in the Olympics.

I'm going to resurrect Bynum's name here. Tough ending to the season in Laker land. Reports came out immediately following their beatdown from the Mavs indicating that change was imminent. There was even a report or two indicating that they wanted to get more athletic. Now that they've had a chance to cool off I'm not sure they're as desperate to part with Bynum. If I'm wrong, does anyone think a package of Iguodala/Lou/Speights would get taken seriously?

Bynum, IIRC, is an absolute favorite of Laker's ownership and they have even balked at times at including him in proposed D12 deals (though I think they would change their minds in a split second on that one). They see him as the future of the franchise despite all of the injuries. Unless it is for another prime big like Howard, I think they are more likely to move Gasol to get younger and more athletic. I think they would laugh at anything we have to offer, even though Bynum is a huge injury risk for them.

I'd obviously give up Iguodala for Bynum, but I doubt the Lakers would bite on that one unless they clearly want him gone and if Kobe was pushing exceptionally hard for Iguodala, since the two of them have been said to be relatively tight. Since Kobe can stroke it, a combination of him and Iguodala at SG/SF would be lights out defensively. Offensively, they could also play Iguodala at point forward some.

Why would they want to swap Iggy for Martin and why would the Rockets? Its a lateral move for both teams.

Either trade him for a few quality smaller pieces or package with another couple guys for a better player.
