2011-2012 Season

Post#1 » by boogiesdad » Tue Nov 29, 2011 1:42 pm

Now that we appear to have a deal and a season starting on Dec 25th. It's really time to start discussing our team, options, FA's, and Trades.

EVERYTHING hinges on Marc - first and foremost. I don't believe we'll see anything else other than Selby being signed and undrafted/FA's for camp happen until his deal is done.

From the Wallace/Hollins press conference the other day, it appears that the FO will be taking a conservative approach in simply trying to resign our three free agents (Gasol, Battier, and Haddadi). If we have a roster spot available due to failing to resign one of the three, I have a feeling Wallace might go after Big Baby - his likely salary demand fits our payroll, he's a former Celtic, and he could add depth to our frontcourt rotation (especially if Powe is gone).

The more interesting issue is OJ Mayo's future with the squad. If/When Gasol is resigned, it will be all but official that OJ will not be resigned due to salary reasons IMO. So you'd think that we'll look to move him prior to the deadline to get something for him before he walks in the offseason.

With all the drama this week I'm actually very pleased to see the Grizzlies under the radar. To me it signals they are more or less set and prepared to get down to business in this short time span.

A couple low priced depth guys off the free agent list, get the formality with Marc Gasol out of the way, and let's get this thing started.
