Suns really have two choices for amnesty either Childress or Warrick. The other long term contracts are Gortat, Dudley, and Frye and none of those players will be dumped this year. Short term contracts with Nash, Pietrus, and Lopez don't make sense.
My expectations are the Suns finish the season and see how Chilly and Warrick play. If Chilly steps up Warrick is gone. If Chilly is average then the Suns dump him to clear more cap room for 2012 FA class.
I'm betting we keep Childress ... he's another cerebral player (Stanford) who keeps his nose clean. I expect he will step it up this year.

Re: Amnesty ???
it'd be a HUGE mistake to use it so soon. i don't expect the suns to amnesty warrick or chilly. the amnesty clause is VERY valuable and should be used on worthless players with team crippling salary. i wouldn't necessarily put warrick's and chilly's contracts under that. i'd bet the suns would've extended amar'e knowing that an amnesty clause was coming with the new CBA lol.... it just wasn't mean to be lol

Re: Amnesty ???
There's no need to use it this season. We keep Chilly to see if he's actually a bust or if he returns to form, and Warrick's contract isn't crippling.
We can amnesty next offseason if we need to.

Re: Amnesty ???
I agree now. We're definitely not in an emergency situation where we'd need to use amnesty.

Re: Amnesty ???
Since it can only be used for a current Suns player probably isn't going to be of much value. Guess if in a few years Gortat, Chilly, Dudley, or Frye really have a down turn we can dump them.
Edit: We don't have any really bad contracts

How long does the amnesty last for?
SHAZAM!
Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

Re: Amnesty ???
14. Amnesty
Each team permitted to waive 1 player prior to any season of the CBA (only for contracts in place at the inception of the CBA) and have 100% of the player’s salary removed from team salary for Cap and Tax purposes.
Salary of amnestied players included for purposes of calculating players’ agreed-upon share of BRI.
A modified waiver process will be utilized for players waived pursuant to the Amnesty rule, under which teams with Room under the Cap can submit competing offers to assume some but not all of the player’s remaining contract. If a player’s contract is claimed in this manner, the remaining portion of the player’s salary will continue to be paid by the team that waived him.

No Amnesty this year. If it helps sign a marquee free agent in 2012 then that would be a good time to use it. It can be used for almost the whole duration of the next CBA better keep it for the when the front office extends Warrick for a 5 year 50 mil deal.
