Dirk says no. You CAN win with a decent core, good chemistry and a lots of heart. Not with idiots like LeDouche or CP3 or...

AHA! So if we FINALLY acknowledge that superstars joining together does NOT GUARANTEE them a championship, what are we really talking/complaining about? Besides another Miami bashing thread...

Haven't been reading the last 5 pages, so don't know where the thread has gone, but....
....it is very, very, VERY rare for two established All-NBA 2nd (or better) players on separate teams to come together through Free Agency or through the use of holding a team hostage to not only make a trade, but a trade to a specific team of your choice.
Jordans' Bulls did not do this. Magic's Lakers did not do this. Bird's Celtics did not do this. Hakeem's Rockets didn't. Duncan's Spurs didn't. Barkley's Suns didn't. Malone and Stockton's Jazz didn't.
No, this is a brand f***ing new thing.
Super teams are not. But teams in the past that had two or three great players achieved that through strategic moves BY THE TEAM. Mostly through the draft and in developing their players. Only occasionally through the use of trades when a player's situation soured in the city or his relationship with management deteriorated.
In the past, great teams were constructed by, you know, THE TEAMS. Now they are being constructed by players who are wanting to gravitate towards the biggest and/or most glamorous locations.
You might argue that people have their rights to decide where they work, and that's hard to argue with.
But there's no way you can say it isn't terrible for the game and for the league.

I think the only bitching comes from people like you who want the players to stick with their teams after the contract is over.
Is Paul saying he won't play for the Hornets? Nope, only that the won't re-sign with them. Same with LeBron or Bosh or Amare.
You should think quite hard on what you just write.
The only problem here is this idea that players owe teams something else besides fulfilling their contracts.
+1
those teams signed those guys to contracts with definite time-frames, they stayed the full length, gave it their best and things didn't end up as peachy as everyone hoped.
now as a marquee player, they've done their probationary period on the team that drafted them, and then signed an extension on top.
now as a free agent now want to go ply their trade in a city they want, on a team that gives a better chance of success.
the problem is always the fans that cant let go. as if they expect the player has the same loyalty the fans of the team have
it is a lose lose for the players. It was just a couple of years ago when everyone considered Dirk a choker and soft, now he is the most popular player. Everyone is using him as the anti-lebron. The fans just want to see what they want to see. They don't like superstar joining together but they also don't like someone like Marbury whose ego was too big to play under someone's else.

I can't wait til these small market teams are "forced" to hand out bad contracts again.

This is the state of modern day political discourse.

You won't have to wait long. You'll read the accompanying rationalizations from their fans as to why the have to give 30 mill to a player you know damn near nothing about.

I can't say this superstar movement upsets me. In fact i have been calling for players to step up and force your way to winning situations instead of wasting your career with terrible management. In the end fans i think want to see future HOFs winning rings. Chris Paul paid his dues in NO, let him do whatever he wants so long as he doesn't make his own show on ESPN announcing it.
