Can someone give me the skinny of the Barnes/MKG matchup today? Had work and missed the game...

Outside of the boxscore, MKG guarded HB as well as anyone could have expected and made his presence felt the entire time he was on the floor. Harrison hit some early shots but was largely ineffective due to early foul trouble and lack of driving ability. He kept dribbling east west around 3 pt line but never touched the paint.

Sidenote: Adonis Thomas's statline looks great 17 pts (6/9) 4 rbs 3ast in 22 mins

I'm not basing my opinion of Barnes from just one game. Please tell me what you think of him.

My opinion of Barnes has been relatively the same the whole time, and today's game was actually pretty much what I expected. Good at few things, disappointing at others, overhyped/overrated overall.

I'm really liking Gilchrist... if we can't get Davis, Barnes, or Drummond... we should try to get him. Realistically, the chances of us getting the #1 pick is slim... you never know what's going to happen at the lottery, so theres a good chance that we'll be looking in the 4-8 range... Gilchrist is a really nice option there.

Yup. I've come to that conclusion too.

I'm on the Jeremy Lamb bandwagon.

Jeremy Lamb is another guy that intrigues me. Apparently his wing span is massive (forgot what the measurements were)... but he might even be able to play SF for us. He can shoot the ball, and he's an excellent defender. He would fit in well with what we have.

Gilchrist does look good though I'm going for Miller if he's still on the board before I take Gilchrist.

Gilchrist and DeRozan won't work well together so I'd expect a trade if we take Gilchrist in the summer.

JEremy Lamb in my opinion can be a superstar in the nba. Same with Miller, Davis and Drummond.

Until the season progresses and their development becomes more clear, I will not rank them.

There is not one other player right now that I would put in their class and think these 4 have shown enough at this stage.

I’m pretty much sold on Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. His ability to play the game on both ends of the floor makes him one of the top SF prospects in this draft - that's hard to pass up on. He needs to work on his outside shooting so that it can open up his slashing game instead of making the catch and taking if off the bounce. This way, he can utilize his ball handling, court vision and playmaking more. Besides that, his basketball IQ is off the charts; finding cracks in the defense and exploiting it by making excellent cuts for the easy deuce. For a Raptors club that wants to change its defensive identity, I think he’s the one that will do it best. He’s always getting up against his man, and pressures the hell outta the ball on defense. Barnes couldn’t set foot inside the paint once today. He literally makes it a living hell for the offensive player bringing the ball down the floor. If teammates see that from our first line of defense, others should follow in the same foot step. And a front court of Kidd-Gilchrist/Ed Davis or Amir Johnson/Jonas Valanciunas would be one of the best rebounding front courts in the NBA.

On the other hand, it’s a wait and see approach with Quincy Miller. He isn’t as good of a defender as Kidd-Gilchrist due to his torn ACL preventing him from making quick lateral movements, though I believe he should recover sometime in the future. When Miller is fully recovered, he is easily the most complete SF in this draft hands down. A player that is able to shoot from anywhere on the floor, create his own shot off the dribble with great elevation on the jumpshot, create plays for teammates, crafty nimble footwork in the mid to high-post, good feel for the basket with the ability to finish with either hand, soft touch, and excellent body control, that’s just too sick. Potential elite offensive player right there imo.
Basketball is like poetry in motion, cross the guy to the left, take him back to the right, he's fallin back, then just J right in his face. Then you look at him and say, "What?" - Jesus Shuttlesworth

Agreed on Miller (of course lol)

But if we only get Gilchrist....fml! We will be Atlanta Hawks 2.0 at best; no thanks!

What do y'all think if, I say IF PJ3 starts to show he can play SF, plays assertive and aggressive like the first game for the rest of the season. Him vs. Quincy vs. Gilchrist, would you take him over those two.

I would definitely over Gilchrist.....

If he was putting up numbers close to his first game all season long then yeah I'd even have to consider him over Miller. The thing is the extra year should give him an edge but it's hard to argue with 20+ppg in college.

The bigger thing for me is if Quincy regains his speed...the kid was put 18+ppg in the wrong position and with a slightly busted wheel; so that's pretty damn impressive. Think what he should be like when back to 100% and in the right position. If he gets back there he's still the best SF in the draft imo even if Perry had slightly more points. I just watch their skills; Perry's not as fluid as I would like for a SF but we'll see...

I'll also say the thing that bugs me about Gilchrist is I heard he's closer to being 6'6 then he is 6'7 and when you conisder that's the height of elite SGs (ie/ Jordan, Kobe and Drexler) I'm not that blown away....especially when you think he's going to be against a beast like Bron and tower like Durant.

I think Gilchrist is almost a SF by default cuz he doesn't a 3pt shot, isn't as fast as most SGs and not as creative as what you would want from a SG. I still think he will be solid, in fact have little doubt in that but I just don't see the tools to be elite (skill or physical). He's not a freight train like James or tower like Durant nor is he skilled like Roy or Randolph to negate the physical gifts. Just screams "solid" player nothing more imo but don't get it confused I think he'll average 18+ppg just he doesn't have the potential to crack 22+ppg.

players d in college (aside from centres) is pretty irrelevant IMO unless they are below average.
Perry Jones can also join in the conversation again - sorta forgot about him.

If he continues to play the way he did the last game, I'd take him over the other two regardless of whether we think he's a SF or PF, because that would probably make him a clear cut BPA competing for a top 2 pick (although I certainly hope it's at SF, because then you have the potential for a truly unique and dominant talent at his position)

Agree that there is a position concern with MKG. It will keep him in the bottom half of the lotto IMO.

Big10 network paying for itself with the Baylor/Northwestern game today.
