I like Young, not sure where he will get his minutes unless we are not resigning Thornton which I would rather have Thornton.

That's what I thought when I heard the Kings were talking to him. He is 6-7 but I don't think he can guard players like Lebron or Carmelo. Tyreke would probably have a better chance.

i mean he's young...I don't know much about him besides he was close to a 20 ppg scorer....maybe he's a good defender?

Re: Nick Young
He's not a good defender and if this is true, I'm guessing it's just interest as a some insurance in case we lose Marcus.

Re: Nick Young
I like Nick Young. He had some big games last year where he dropped 30 + multiple times and dropped 43 on us in January.
However, I don't see how he fits into the rotation with Marcus and Jimmer filling similar roles. Maybe he can get time at the 3 if we give up on either Garcia or Greene or at the 2 when Tyreke is on the bench when we don't want a miniature backcourt of Jimmer and Marcus on the floor.
I'd prefer Nick Young over JJ Barea if Jimmer can end up playing some point guard and handle the ball decently.
Ultimately, I don't see us landing Chandler, Nene or Gasol so we are most likely going to have to settle for a more modest signing

I am seriously starting to smell a set-up for later in the year making a big name trade and loading up a lot of young, relatively cheap pieces to do that.

Re: Nick Young
Petrie has to be throwing a diversion here or he's truly looking for that John Salmons/Bobby Jackson steal of a contract. Oh, that and probably driving Marcus Thorntons price down by showing him that there are other options out there, hehehe.

I'm kind of getting that feeling as well. We might not make a big splash in FA (we never do) but a big trade is possible. The obvious question would be, who would we targeting?
If we can resign Dally, I think our frontline is more than fine. Even though we have a glut of them, our weakest position is currently SF. A pure PG is arguably our second biggest need (I think we're all hopeful Jimmer could develop to be that guy).
Now, things could change by midseason but as it stands now, who's a possible target?
Josh Smith--he looks like he's in much better shape to play the 3 this season but he doesn't spread the floor. If we're starting Tyreke and Thornton that means we'll only have one 3 point shooter on the floor (assuming Tyreke's shot isn't dramatically better, which is possible). I've heard he's had a history of being a little bit of a knucklehead which is exactly what we don't want with all our young guys.
Luol Deng--not a bad fit but unlikely candidate. Only way he gets traded is if the Bulls are getting an upgrade or he's playing poorly in which case why would we want him.
Danny Granger--I don't think he's a good fit honestly. He needs the ball in his hands and he's too expensive to be relegated to spot-up shooter. I think he's a better defender than he's sometimes given credit for but I'm not all that interested.
Rudy Gay--another guy who needs the ball but if you can get him without gutting your roster--you do. We'll have to see how he gels with the Grizz this season. I'd say it's very unlikely he'll be available.
Danilo Gallinari--great shooter, spreads the floor. He's a little slow to guard SF's imo but it might be worth looking into.
Andre Iguodala--many of us have coveted him for a long time. Depending on how the season goes, Philadelphia might be looking to rebuild so he could become available. He has everything we'd want in a SF other than...3 point shooting. Again, if Tyreke and Thornton are our starting backcourt, we need our 3 to spread the floor.
Who am I missing?

Re: Nick Young
It's more than I reLly want to hope for, but I can't help thinking that the type of assets that are being gathered certainly fit the type of package that would be thrown at Orlando or NO.
Future draft picks become less of a problem when you have a team structured around three all-stars (Reke, DMC, Howard/Paul), with a brand new arena and plenty of vets who want rings.
We can all dream!
