I was just thinking about this.
What would you guys think if we amnestied Outlaw, signed Nene to a 4 year/$60 mil (still think that's a bit much), signed C. Butler to what how the remaining amount of cap room?
We'd instantly improve down low by having Nene.
But the more intriguing piece would be using the rest of the cap to sign Butler to a one year deal. He can help us and we can help him.
If he plays well enough, he'll play himself into a bigger, and probably much more long term and lucrative contract than what he'll get now. However, if a mid-season Howard deal comes up, we'd have Lopez + a huge expiring contract to offer in Butler. If a mid-season Howard deal doesn't come up, we'll be with the ones freeing ourselves up of Butler's contract.
Idk how much room we'd have for a max contract but I'd slap him if he couldn't get Farmar and Petro off the team for current expiring deals to make room for a max contract next season.

Butler is 31 and has a history of injuries if I were him I'd be looking for that last multi-year deal this offseason.
And I will puke if Nene gets $15 million a year. It looks like his value could be getting hyped to that amount but if you look at the bigs making $15+ million a year Nene really shouldn't be making that much under any circumstance...

I agree with you on the Nene contract. He already said that he would've accepted Denver's offer of $12.5mil annually if he didn't feel disrespected by them. I'd play off that and give him $13-14mil annually tops. Every million helps us save for next for next offseason.

i'm cool with the nene deal if the $$ is right.
caron butler can still play (hence the reason he is one of the biggest sought after free agents) but i cannot see new jersey dishing out a lot of $ for him.
some other team will over pay for caron and get some serviceable minutes out of him. i just don't think that team is the nets.

Butler will visit with team officials from the Chicago Bulls on Monday morning, followed by trips to sit down with officials from the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night, the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday, the New Jersey Nets on Wednesday and possibly the Detroit Pistons on Thursday, a source close to the situation confirmed Sunday night.
The source said that those teams understand that Butler, 31, is not interested in a one-year contract, the length favored by the Mavs to bring back the nine-year veteran.

Yea i'd be looking for a long term deal to if i was him.

I think there's no way that Caron Butler will accept a one year deal. He's bound to get a multi year deal from other teams either way.

After today's interviews with D-Will, if we overspend to get Nene/Chandler and thereby prevent ourselves from even having a chance at Howard, I'll be like....

Oh, I think our FO is smart enough to tell ORL that our offer (Lopez/two 1sts for Howard/Turkoglu) will only stand until Thursday. After that, our capspace will be tied up in a FA acquisition, or at least in an offer sheet.

After our FO inked Outlaw to a 5 year/$35mil deal, I don't assume that smart things will get done.
Maybe things might be different with Billy there, but he hasn't done enough to make me feel comfortable.

Caron Butler's choices: SA or CHI for the $5 million midlevel exception, or NJ or LA Clippers for about $7 mill/year...

I wonder for how long though.
Also, what's sad is that we have more interest in a 31 year old, post ACL tear SF than our current 25 year old starting SF who would both make the same amount of money. That just shows how much of a fail Outlaw is/was.

At least he isn't trying to outbid the other teams.
Caron, please go to SA.
