Archie Manning: No Peyton Manning - Andrew Luck combo

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Tue Dec 6, 2011 10:47 pm

Archie Manning doubts that Peyton and Andrew Luck want to be teammates

Peyton Manning has said that, by March, his future in Indianapolis will become apparent. As the Colts close in on the ability to take Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck with the first overall pick in the 2012 draft, Archie Manning has provided the first tangible evidence to suggest that a divorce is coming.

Specifically, Archie doesn’t believe that Peyton and Luck will want to be teammates in Indianapolis.

“I don’t think it’d necessarily be great for either one,” Archie Manning told FOX Sports Radio’s Zakk & Jack Show on Tuesday. “I think Andrew’s the type of mature player . . . he can walk right in. I mean, these other three or four guys that are playing this year, [if] they can walk in and contribute, Andrew can, too. . . .

“We know Andrew well. He comes down to our camp every year. I used to play with his dad [Oliver]. . . . I’m in New York, I heard from him last night. Peyton’s also tried to help Andrew and kind of be a friend. I doubt if either one want to play on the same team.”

So, where do you guys think Peyton gets traded to next season? Colts are pretty much a lock for the 1st pick, so me and a buddy were doing some pondering and I think that SF, MIA, NYJ and DAL might be potential suitors. I read a blog on ESPN that says the Broncos should take a look at him too. Maybe he could go to Denver to back-up Tebow :P.

It would be so strange seeing him in a different jersey, but all signs are pointing to him not playing in Indi next season. You'd figure the Colts would prefer to ship him to an NFC team, but we'll see how this plays out.

I feel like the Redskins should be the front runners to pull off a trade like this  .

It's funny because me and a friend of mine had this exact same discussion too, and we both agreed on one team that should go all out for Peyton -- the Ravens. They aren't winning with Flacco and Ed Reed and Ray Lewis aren't getting any younger. Put Manning on that team and they are the favorites in the AFC (assuming of course Manning comes back healthy) until Manning or that defense starts significantly declining.

My goodness the Redskins? Ha! Eli vs Peyton twice a year would be nice.

I have a feeling Peyton is going to hang it up.

I really really doubt the colts would trade him to the ravens without them giving up a big defensive piece. Even then they probably wouldn't do it. They would most likely trade him to an NFC team and not see him very often.

I hope what ends up happening is that the colts trade manning to an average situation where he isn't really a big threat to win anything or they keep him and draft luck so they aren't really a contender to win a SB.

I've been saying this since the day he sat down, I don't think we'll ever see Peyton play another down in the NFL. He has way too much to lose in terms of future health by getting back into the game.

I know that he is an incredibly competitive guy, who wants nothing more than to get back on the field and make the Colts relevant again, but he has to realize it isn't in his best interests.

Archie Manning has always done a terrible job at talking through his ass on behalf of his sons. If he's legitimately trying to tell the Colts and Jim Irsay that they'd be making a mistake to take Luck in the draft, then he's probably dipping into early senility.

On the whole 'trade him' note, what team would be stupid enough to unload for Peyton Manning right now? Seriously? There's absolutely no guarantee that after one entire season of inactivity that this guy will be half the QB he was in 2010. And, even if you were to take a shot, there's no guarantee he'll stay healthy.

If my favorite team's GM pulled the trigger on a Peyton trade, I'd ask for his head.

I also believe we have seen Peyton Manning's last NFL snap.

Archie needs to STFU, he talks too much and is way too entitled for a guy that wasn't very good.

Wow.

Are you thinking that the surgeries he's had has somehow permanently decreased his motor skills because of the issues surrounding his neck?

It is quite possible, he may never get full nerve regeneration.

I highly doubt Peyton gets traded. They owe him 28 million in March, so keeping him on the roster to trade him will be a HUGE hit on the cap and handcuff the Colts for next season and possibly the one after. If we draft Luck, which we should, we release Peyton to avoid his bonus. No way we can keep both on the roster and have any money for the other players we need to be competitive.

This is the only thing sports heads talk about in Indy, most believe there is NO WAY they co-exist and all agree we should draft luck and release Manning. It will be a sad day here if we release him.

^ Why in the world would you RELEASE Peyton when you can just trade him and get something in return? Wouldn't taking the cap hit be worth all the picks the Redskins or Jets would throw your way?

The Jets, to me, seem like the ideal trading partner in that you could either trade Peyton to them for a ton of picks and maybe even a decent young player or two ... OR ... trade Luck to them for Sanchez AND a ton of picks, giving you Peyton's heir apparent as well as a bunch of picks to supply manning with weapons to go to battle with NOW.

Your thoughts?

I think I'll stop watching football if the colts get rid of number 18.I understand that luck is a good quarterback and all but were talking about the Face of the NFL for the past 15 years. you simply don't just cut the guy whose beencarrying your piece of crap franchise and is the reason your team hasn't been contracted yet. Im not even a Manning fan yet I can't imagine a league without the hick. And for the colts fans who favor the luck pick, shame on you. You're not true fans. Jim irsay is a douche and if he goes thru with this, then I hope that this franchise ends up in the xfl which is where they would be without Peyton.

End rant

According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, Colts owner Jim Irsay "will never trade" Peyton Manning.
Mort also reports both Irsay and Manning have emphatically denied discussing pushing back the March 8 due date for Manning's $28 million option bonus. The duo will "jointly determine" Manning's future, and the matter of Manning's potential release remains a "medical issue" for the time being. Our best guess remains that Manning will be released just before or on March 8.
