MIN - CHI -MEM again

Post#1 » by shrink » Wed Dec 7, 2011 10:57 pm

MIN GETS: CHA 1st* + Ronnie Brewer ($4.7) or Kyle Korver ($5.0)
MIN GIVES: MEM 1st* + $5.4 mil cap space

CHI GIVES: CHA 1st + Ronnie Brewer / Kyle Korver
CHI GETS: OJ Mayo

MEM GIVES: OJ Mayo
MEM GETS: $5.6 mil cap space + MEM 1st

* Bobcats protected pick:
top 14 in 2012
top 12 in 2013
top 10 in 2014
top 8 in 2015
unprotected in 2016

MEM protected pick:
top 14 in 2013
top 14 in 2014
top 14 in 2015
top 14 in 2016
else 2016 second round pick, $3M cash

CHI:
- upgrade with Mayo to win now
- stay young
- take pressure off rose.
- They can pay Mayo next year.

MIN:
- upgrades their pick, at the cost of cap space.
- Brewer or Korver could have a role
- mostly unguaranteed next year when we need money

MEM:
- gets the cap space for #1 priority, sign Marc Gasol
- gets an asset that costs no cap space (pick)
- gains the flexibility to trade the MEM pick later if they need to avoid Stepian rule.

I don't see why the wolves need to give a pick we are both taking in salary (Brewer or Korver) and creating cap-space (Memphis). Unless you think Brewer or Korver are worth the questionable upgrade in the pick...a pick should not be outgoing or we shouldn't take on salary, which would defeat the point of the trade altogether.

From the Wolves point of view, it's an upgrade from the Memphis pick to the Charlotte pick. Memphis's pick will come this year, Charlotte's pick will be in Charlotte for a few years. This is essentially delaying the Wolves getting a pick for a few years when they'll need it and adding a player Shrink thinks is a good fit on the Wolves.

Plus, as bad as the bobcats are going to be for several years, the CHA pick has a legitimate chance of being unprotected.

I don't know - you guys make good points.

The Grizzlies are expected to match the four-year, $55 million offer sheet that Marc Gasol has agreed to with the Rockets.

Ouch! That makes our offer much better than IND's.

With standard 4.5% raises, the deal starts at $13 mil.

Very good proposal. I guess the only question would be if Memphis can clear the cap space any other way. Not a huge move for the Wolves but a positive 1 for sure.

Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
