Should Bulls pay over $500,000 to Chinese team for Smith?

@ESPNSteinLine
Marc Stein
But rumbles persist in Chinese hoop circles that W. Chandler and J.R. Smith could be released anyway if their teams get serious money back

So I'm not going to ramble, I'm tired. Should the Bulls throw down to bring home JR Smith and get him out of that communist country? I think it's bs they're are holding these players to their contracts. They're already poisoning their milk and putting poison in our gf's bras. Don't give me that honor your contract bs either. Talk about ruining your image among NBA players. Good luck having them sign there in the future. Only the Chinese. Love you long time!YOU PAY TIP NOW!!!

NO!

Just messin. If you know, you know.

So what do you think after hearing the names like Jamal Crawford and Jason Richardson.. would JR be worth it? Could he be trusted? He's pretty much a more explosive Jamal Crawford.. both suck at defense. But then you watch this and drool...

I say do it!

He could be this Bulls teams version of Dennis Rodman..head case? yes. Talented as hell>? HELL YES!

I've actually really cooled off on Smith. I'd still probably want him more than JRich, Carter, Caron, etc., but I'd rather have Crawford or Young.

Isn't that the truth.

As for JR though.... Hell, if I had boatloads of money I'd probably fork it over to get him right now.

I'd probably make him pay me back though after the first title run. :D

I might be the biggest JR Smith to Bulls supporter here. I really want that guy's talent on our team.

I would still rather JR Smith more than any other SG that is realistically available.

Maybe the Bulls can negotiate with him and be like hey if we get you out of China will you take the MLE or less?

If all the Bulls did was get Smith with the MLE this offseason, it's a successful one. Headcase or not, he's exactly the type of 2-guard they need. If Rose, Noah, Thibs and the rest can't keep him pointed in the right direction, it was still a gamble worth taking.

You're on the precipice of a championship. Now's the time to put the hammer down and go for it.

Anyone remember adding another headcase back-in-the-day? The second threepeat says it didn't turn out too bad.

Smith needs to move quickly here. We can't wait for him and I think he'll end up going to another team who has cap space if he can't get this done by the end of this week. If he can, the Bulls should pay $500k to release Smith.

1). Spend the MLE on JR Smith
2). Trade for Jamal Crawford

JR Smith is clearly the best fit for this team and was our clear #1 overall on this board.

I agree if they are going to trade a solid player like Brewer for Crawford why not just fork the money over and try to get Smith who to me is a better more athletic player than either Richardson or Crawford.
If Thibs can work with this guy on his defense and his decision making...

Could you imagine how freaking athletic a back court of JR Smith and Derrick Rose would be? Wade running after Smith in a series would give him something to do on defense which is exactly what the Bulls want.. someone the Heat have to seriously contend with on the wing so that they can't rape Derrick.

No need for JC at that point imo. Having both would be redundant, I'd rather make a hard push for Hill, Butler, Prince.

Bulls want Crawford for ball movement. They could swap Crawford for Carter, but outside of that, Crawford is the best bet.

They're both similar players and fill similar roles. Neither of them have distinct differences from the other. Signing both would be a waste of money.

If Butler is off the table, then we are limited on options.

Prince is a SF, he has had to many problems playing SG so he isn't really an option. Hill is likely going to resign. After that, you have Bogans or Josh Howard.

We are limited on defensive options here so if they are all off the table, you go for the best talent you can for now.

Umm twitter...

@ESPNSteinLine
Marc Stein
RT @jefflibman: @ESPNSteinLine What does serious money mean? More than $500,000, I'm sure (PLAYERS REFUNDING THEIR SALARIES AND NBA BUYOUT)

Well I changed the title to over $500,000 because they would have to pay back whatever the got for signing in China and then the buyout number.. so who knows how much it would cost..

This I would like to know also. IF 500k is all it takes to release him from his contract, I believe the Bulls FO wouldn't hesitate to come to an agreement with him to sign if they pay it for him.

EDIT: Ahh so it would be 500,000 and up. ok.
