Why are people so down on Baron, when he is healthy and motivated he is a top 15-20 pg in the league.

I'm ok with Baron Davis. But if the Knicks use their MLE on Grant Hill they aren't likely to be able to get Baron Davis in this rather convoluted amnesty process (assuming Davis is even amnestied). Why? Obviously no team is likely to take on Davis entire salary (if he's amnestied). Assuming this is the case and he skips through the initial outright claim phase, he still needs to make it through the bidding phase (where teams with capspace or MLE can bid on him). Considering the talent, considering the position he plays, I can't see no other team bidding even a 3 or 4 million for him. Should they (and I think that's a guarantee) the Knicks will never get a shot at signing him for anything. Now if they had their MLE then they theoretically could spend it during the bidding phase on Davis. Would leave them with Tyson Chandler, Amare Stoudemire, Carmelo Anthony and Baron Davis...which would actually be pretty darn good looking on paper. But that would mean no Grant Hill.

Let's be clear on one thing. People prefer to forfeit the year for a CHANCE to sign CP3 which will ultimately cost us Fields, TD, Shumpert, and all other assets instead of getting Chandler NOW and make a real run at this.

CP3/Melo/Amare combo with bunch of minimums is redundant. It ain't better than what Miami has there. We need defense, we need rebounding, we need depth to beat Miami. Not become a second rate copy of them.

there was a report he told the knicks if they weren't going to give him the extension that he wanted to be released. Donnie shut him up by giving him the extension because of the lockout.

I agree that D'Antoni needs a good, pace setting PG, but we scored plenty of baskets with Duhon running the point and he made Ray Felton look like an All-Star last year.

There are a ton of PG's in the league, and the officiating has made being a PG easier than it's ever been. Even with all the rule changes, no NBA champion has won a chip because of PG play since Isiah's Pistons. One could argue that Billups was instrumental for the Pistons, but I dont think he was more important than either Ben or Rasheed Wallace.

Mavs won because of their frontcourt, so did all those spurs teams. Miami won with a SG and Shaq, The Spurs won chips because of TD, not TP, Shaq and Kobe won without a true pg, so did Jordan's and Hakeem's teams.

I love cp3, he's easily my favorite non knick, but he's less important in the grand scheme of things than we all think.

Point being, D'Antoni can find a "pure pg" a la Felton or Duhon, and turn them into a pretty effective PG. I don't think the answer is shumpert douglas or anthony carter, but there are options out there that will allow us to flourish with the frontcourt we're on the verge of having.

No matter who it is, if that PG can't run the PnR, then we will have a problem

I hate Dolan because he surrounds himself with poor decision makers, but let's be honest here, you can't get mad at an owner whose going to spend spend spend, and now he's spending even more to fix problems. He basically signed Chandler for 58million + 14 that he wont see production out of by amnestying Billups.

The last step is unrealistic; not enough assets for NO. But I like the moves before that. Love the backcourt combo; great compliments cause Hill can compensate for Barea's lack of D and point guard abilities.
