Re: HOLY F, NEW CBA LOOPHOLE!
With Chandler, I guess you could probably still get Paul up to $10M or so. If everybody chipped in. Not sure.
But sounds like you could definitely give Paul a Max if you just don't sign Tyson. Amar'e and Melo could extend their contract some and get paid out with a reduction that allows you to Max out Paul.
Revoke offer to Tyson!

read the new rule again. it says their salary cannot be renegoiated by more than 40% and it has to be in an extension, so is that saying that amare and carmelo can both get extensions and reduce their 2012 salaries to $12,000,000. I don't know if this is correct, but you would probably have to add a year. If that's the case Chris Paul will be a knick if he is not traded to the lakers.

But how, with Tyson now on board? No room even with renegotiation. Someone run the numbers.

24 million between those two, 14 for Chandler = 38 million. Cap holds, Shumpert, + Fields and we should have enough to get Paul.

Tyson
Dynasty.

Carmelo + Stat = $39,9m*.6 = $23.64m
Tyson Chandler = $14.5m
Iman Shumpert = $1.9m
Renaldo Balkman= $1.675m
Cap holds ~ $5m
$47m

Re: HOLY F, NEW CBA LOOPHOLE!
why would you revoke the offer for chandler, when you can ask chandler to do the same next along with, carmelo and amare? it just means they would have to get an extension. we don't know the exact rule yet, so we are just speculating. carmelo and chris paul are good friends, and amare wants to win, so if amare can get another year and we keep the amnesty for amare, then all three of them could re-negoatiate for a longer deal at a lower price.

moocow007 wrote:1. I'm sure you'd still need to keep it within the new max years and max salary per year so we'd only be able to extend Amare and Melo one year. So it's minimally effective for guys like Amare, Melo and Chandler.
2. I would imagine you would still have to work within the limits of the new CBA in terms of max increase per year. So it's not like they can take a lot lesss now and then back load the thing like crazy (i.e. Melo and Amare if you guys take only 25% of $20 million for 2012 we'll give you 175% increase in 2013).
I think this is only really for guys like Elton Brand and Emeka Okafor who might have only 2 or so years left on their beefy per year contracts and be willing to renegotiate down the total amount of the contract PER YEAR but add on a lot more years.
I think you're probably right. It CANNOT BE as easy as just dropping Melo and Amar'e all the way to $12M can it? Would be sick if somehow it's true though. Holy Moses lol.

Could maybe shave 40% from Tyson too though. Basically puts Paul back at $13M.

Re: HOLY F, NEW CBA LOOPHOLE!
ESPN's cliffnotes version leaves too much to ambiguity.
- Are they just confusing this with the new "stretch" provision we all heard about where you waive the player but stretch the cap hit over several # of years?
- Can you renegotiate a contract but keep the same # of years? Cause otherwise, if the renegotiated contract has to extend for longer than their current one, there is no way Amar'e or Melo would agree to it, cause they'd essentially be cutting into future earnings when they re-up.
- Can you still have the same player opt-outs? This would seem like another loophole in a loophole, cause then you can stretch out the contract for cap space, but then have a player opt out for year 3 so they can just resign back to the max again.
Considering the fact that the Knicks have known about these provisions for awhile and still went ahead and signed (or will sign) Tyson, I don't think there's much to this, or ESPN has worded it poorly.

I thought you could only do it on contracts from the old CBA.

I can't see Melo and Stat restructuring their deal to be honest. Why do it when the Knicks are just going to turn around and trade you for the next best thing?

I bet not. That's amnesty for a mistake -- has to be signed already. But renegotiations are different. Renegotiations under the previous CBA would allow you to do it for any contract, before or after new CBA. I'm sure this is the same.

Re: HOLY F, NEW CBA LOOPHOLE!
Multiple sources report that the salary cap figure will remain level this season, at $58 million, and projections are that the cap for the 2012-13 season would be approximately $60 million to $61 million.
“That’s what we’ve been discussing, though the exact dollar amount is not set until the new deal is done,’’ one league source said.
thats the elephant in the room id say. what if the cap goes up to $60mil?

I don't think they're confusing it with Stretch. That's a pretty different concept. But your second question is the key one I think. Opt-out think just sounds like a loophole that they'd probably close.
