On Knicks-Chandler front, sources say it looks like Billups will be amnestied and Turiaf will be sent out in separate deal. No sign/trade.

Let's do it, make it official.

I'm maintaining my stance that this is a bad move if we're using our amnesty provision. Amare's health is a huge concern, especially for the amount of cap room he's taking up.

Since he had microfracture surgery FIVE YEARS AGO, Amare Stoudemire has averaged 74.8 games a season and that's counting the 53 game season where he missed time with the eye injury. Take out that season (nothing to do with his knees) and he's averaged 80.25 of the 82 games played a season putting him as actually one of the healthiest and most durable players in the NBA in those 4 years. And that's not couting 35 playoff games in that same time period.

With Chandler and no real PG, this team is looking less like a D'Antoni team and more like a Big Chief Triangle type of team.

This makes this trade stupid. We waste our amnesty on a guy who is very serviceable with one year left on this deal? Thats really stupid I cannot justify that. You got to save that amnesty incase of a crazy freak injury in the future.

The answer has been, and always will be, no you cannot re-sign amnestied players.

thx smartass, your smugness is much appreciated

It's really common sense lol...I wasn't trying to be a smartass. It's just that this question is asked here really often. We should just have a banner at the top of the page or something.

I think that might be in the plans for the future, which I have mixed feelings about because I do love Iman and his upside, but I just don't see him running the 1 in the NBA. This worries me.

Of course, that's why I can't see people being mad at this signing. Either he's a top-flight center for us, or he's an attractive piece in a sign and trade.

answer me this,

if Barron Davis says he doesnt want to play for your team and instead wants to go to the knicks - remember hes getting his full contract plus whatever else is in the new contract - what team would be desperate/foolish enough to sign him against his will.

Baron, for all his good qualities, is the worst player in the league to have unmotivated on your team. He will never pass and hardly suit up.

these are reasons not to sign him. However with this team right now he will be incredibly motivated and a devil to guard with his combo of range, speed, penetration and rebounding.

right now, with this team and coach, hes a great option for us

I love this potential signing, Chandler is just what we need. So what if we don't get CP3, trust we'll obtain a competent PG that can run this squad efficiently.

We'll have the best front line in the league, defense, size, rebounding...Some of you guys act as if Chris Paul is the ONLY way to have a successful basketball team. I'm kinda glad we went in another direction.

I think the divide here between fans has more to do with the 2 max guys we have. I personally don't think they're true superstars. That's why I can't justify giving 14mil/yr for a specialist until we have our core in place. I've never wanted Amare or Melo. But if those were the two guys we needed to get to lure CP3, I was on board. That's my position.

Gotta amnesty to have room to sign Chandler. It's not an unnecessary move.

espn tickers makin it seem like paul is a lock to the lakers. paul gasol to the rockets. i guess we already got word that we couldnt make a trade work. paul probably saying he wasnt gunna wait it out too. so well theres that. we just got top notch center. now we need a real sg and a real pg. not easy. but its a start.

Last year it was reported Nets got Melo 3 times. Just sayin...plus, this new loophole helps us a lot.

suddenly the trade got better

I could see D'Antoni benching Tyson. I'm serious. I mean, he only played 28 minutes last season. I could see MD reducing that to 15.

14mil for 15mpg.. sounds like mike

EVERYONE'S health is an issue in essence. No?
Dude is signed through the life our best two guys' prime. We were debating Jeff Foster vs. Kurt Thomas and now we end up with Tyson Chandler and people are complaining??!
I wanted CP3 but honestly, it is next to impossible to find a realistic way of getting him here. We will get a vet pg, wheteher that's B-Diddy or Mo Williams or even Jamal Tinsley, somebody capable of running the team will be snapped up. TD and Shump will shore up whatever they lack on the defensive end off the bench.
Then next year we go after Nash, keep our "pieces" and grow as a real team. Did I see this coming? No way. Is it risky? About as risky as signing Amare to 100M uninsured and bringing another Brooklyn boy in Melo home. I love this deal.
And as for trading Amare....that ain't happenin'.
And I'm glad.

And who said Paul is coming here now? Have you not thought of this as a Plan B because he wants to go to LA since NY isn't going to get a good deal with NO?

This moves says "We are committed to building a title contender with STAT & MELO....unless Paul comes for scraps"

malik959 wrote:You guys kill me, you complain about Chandlers knees but CP3's knees don't scare you, wow. This is a good signing cause Chandler would have signed with a team that wants to compete and would have tried to kill us in the end. We desperately needed a big man, we got one! We complained about DEFENSE, we got it! Depth, we got it! Trade Billups and Turiaf for a decent point and we're set. Sign Grant Hill! You don't need three all stars to win a championship.

I can hear Kurt Thomas screaming at the bus now "Wait for me guys!"

Pretty much.

This is what 10 years of lack of winning does to a fanbase. They forgot what it takes to win. Once the season, starts all will be forgiven.

Agreed. We still don't have the true franchise player. Unless Melo wakes up tomorrow, and can run an offense like Dirk, we aren't true contenders yet.
