So realistically what kind of money do we have left and who do we sign? Can we still afford Hill? Can we afford a role player or two?

I don't get it .. is this deal going to happen? Or are we still looking for suitors for Turiaf which is holding it up? There hasn't been a 100% official call that its done.

don't think about how much he makes. think about it like this. chandler, fields, shump, douglas, mle player this year vs 13 mill next year. those were the options.

Fields - Shump
Deron

Talent wise I like it, we would also get younger. But it feels dirty to me.

great move.
now to follow it up with signing shawne williams and derrick brown.

tyson chandler brings the rebounding and defense the knicks have lacked since camby.
leave the scoring to melo and amare.

Why do you wanna get rid of Amare so bad?

Putting aside loyalty and all that, you wouldn't do that deal from a pure basketball POV?

We wouldn't have had that much cap space next year anyway.

Now we can use our MLE too.

7' defensive C's are overpaid because they are rare and they help teams win games/championships.

No.

Why should we attempt to help the Nets?

As opposed to what other option?

Paul was off the table once he agreed to the Lakers. Unless you were thinking of waiting another year to add someone.

I would have kept the amnesty for Amare in case his body doesn't hold up and attempt to sign Deron Williams in the offseason.

Or...Melo for Dwight :D :D A better, younger, healthier big man, amnesty and cap space intact. I'm not sure how serious I am about this yet, just causing trouble.

I hope the mavs have a change of heart and do a straight swap with us and billups. Especially with the rockets and lakers deals. But I guess thats doubtful.

Certainly sounds like the deal is contingent upon finding a suitable trade partner for Turiaf. However, makes absolutely no sense to announce a Chandler trade without having a few options on the table, so I imagine we're going through each and making the final decision on which option to take.

I think tommorow's the first day any moves can officially be made.

god shammgod wrote:the money for tyson doesn't matter. once the knicks realized they couldn't get cp3 they made a decision. try to use our 13 mill next summer on a center/pg and lose all our youth. or keep everybody, sign chandler now and still have the smaller mle to add to the team next year. it's a no brainer really.

I don't know how possible it would have been, but I would have liked to try and spend the money on Samuel Dalembert and Jason Richardson.

Defensively and on the boards, Chandler really isn't that much better than Dalembert. Overall I'd say he's probably 70-80% the player Chandler is.

Fields is not a 2, and Shumpert is an unknown right now. The whole notion that we "don't need more offense" is nonsense. You need at least 1 guy in the backcourt who can really score the ball. Richardson would have given us that, and he could have created some space too with his shooting.

Doing something like this would have given us more balance and depth.

i don't think rockets did well in this trade.. gave up too much imo. scola, martin, dragic and a 1st is too much for gasol at this stage in his career esp for the position the rockets are in. They're a late playoff team at best and will be in a tough cap position with gasol due $20mil for the next 3 seasons.
