If the proposed trade goes down...

The trade of dwight and hedo for brook and the picks would clearly be the best thing that ever happened to our franchise... but looking forward to the aftermath of the trade, would you at that point amnesty turkoglu immediately instead of outlaw to preserve cap space to sign a nene and another piece?

due to the new renegotiation clause in the CBA we would be able to negotiate outlaws contract down by as much as 40% this year and since his contract is 7 mil and turko is about 11mil i think it would be better to amnesty hedo. plus maybe outlaw with the prospect on playing with a better team will play at the level we expected him to or at the very least the level hes played at in the past. thoughts?

2) Outlaw's PER was horrific. He goes no matter what.

3) We have bigger things to deal with. If these tampering charges are true, we just did the dumbest thing in franchise history.

so what are the ramifications if the nets organization did indeed tamper? are the legality issues threatening to all parties, how does this work? anyone know?

Closest thing to tampering was the Wolves/Mchale deal with Joe Smith...which cost the Wolves multiple first round picks.

ok ok makes sense.

so this would not withhold the trade from actually going into fruition? or would it, because the nets would not be able to send the magic future picks along with brooks?

BOTH.

Trade will not occur, Nets not allowed to sign Dwight in FA, AND lose picks.

Basically, the ultimate fail.

wow i really hope they can disprove this tampering case...

"If found to have had the meeting with Howard, the Nets could face stiff fines, a loss of draft picks and perhaps even lose the right to sign him as a free agent next summer or trade for him."

honestly i believe whether or not the nets did meet with howard against league rules it would still be in the magics best interest NOT to file tampering charges against the nets. The magic will be told by howard that he is gone regardless and he wants to sign an extension with the nets so if the magic want to get any sort of value in return for dwight they would suck it up and make the trade with us. praying they see it this way too.

i think they would try to make a play for bynum, instead of working with the nets.

what happens though if both sides continue to deny the occurrence of a meeting? 1) i dont think prokhorov is a stupid guy, he must know such actions are prohibited. and 2) how can an outside source confirm a meeting between the nets and howard? and why should we give credence to such allegations? this could be a fabrication by someone's "sources" to eliminate the nets from possible candidates to sign dwight howard.

Does anyone get the impression that Otis Smith had this smear campaign cooked up all along? Whomever Howard asks to be traded to, gets accused of tampering. Throw in a 3rd party (Houston) so it doesn't look TOO coincidental. I woudl not rule out the role sour grapes plays in this meloDWama...

I have a feeling the definition of the term "meeting" will be discussed ad nauseam. My gut tells me that *something* happened, but Prokhy is too smart and has too many handlers to get caught physically meeting with Howard. I envision a byzantine, rule-bending-but-not-breaking setup, where Mikhael whispers to someone, who then walks across the room to tell Dwight, and so forth. But it's certainly possible that the meeting completely happened, or completely didn't.

But as enetric alluded to, I PRAY that this little filibustering antic doesn't end up costing us Howard AND Nene. That'd suck.

Otis and King are supposedly good friends. I can't imagine it would come from Otis (who, despite his failures, is actually a geniunely good guy, same as King). I think there's a third team out there who is feeding this rumor to the Magic higher ups in order to sabotage the deal.

makes sense to me. there arent a lot of candidates to get howard. the first part is for a potential team to have the assets for such a trade but the most important part is getting howard to resign, and apparently there are 2-4 teams that have the chance to resign howard. the nets and the lakers are howard's preferred destinations. seems more likely that the lakers set this smokescreen up than it is that the nets would stupidly risk losing the opportunity to get howard this year or next.
