6.5 million a year is too much for a starting PF that is an upgrade?

That was more a question i wasn't really saying he was.

That means some one will want to pay him 60+ million over the next 3 years? Doubtful. He will clear waivers easily. Hopefully he signs back with us for the VE.

Waiver wire teams can make contract offers on him for part of the salary, or did this change?
as far as I know, its a bidding process, and whatever portion he gets on his new contract is taken off of the amnestied one...

if no one else wants him and he signs for vet min on a contender like bulls, we still pay gil virtually his full amount. Even if he were to clear waivers, I'm not sure if rules allow waiving team to resign a player once he's cleared.
Let's assume Otis had a little buddy-buddy chat with Arenas about this situation

Don't think we can resign an amnestied player. However, getting under the caps now lets us bid on other amnestied players.

If I'm seeing this correctly, we now have three options:

1) S&T Richardson for someone making over the MLE
2) Sign someone outright using MLE
3) Bid on amnesty waivers

Not bad.

I think it keeps the same thing, if his contract is 60mi over 3 years and he signs for 5mi over 3 years, we would have to pay him the remaining 55mi, right?

One thing is certain, the Magic have to pay the difference between his previous contract and whatever contract he gets for the next 3 years.

Does the amnesty on Gil mean Orlando is gonna go after a guard? I hope we get Monta.

Well it doesn't matter to our cap space, the 19 mil is gone, poof! We are now right around the cap with Glen Davis included. The great question will be if there is some agreement between Otis and Arenas to resign Arenas after he clears the first round of waivers. I think this is what the great majority of us believed when Otis brought him over last year.

Nope, he can't come back to us, if I'm not mistaken. Goes to the highest bidder under the cap.

The Magic have 15 million wrapped up in Redick and Nelson. Since the Magic are about 2 or 3 million under the cap, could they move those two after the season to get 18 or so million under? Would be interesting.

Thought somebody posted in one of the threads here, that Battie re-signed with Philly ?

What i want to know is if we have necessarily USED the MLE on Big Baby, or if we simply used cap space to sign him. According to my maths, if we amnestied Arenas, that would have put us at AROUND 57 mil, which is under the cap. Then, the S&T that sent out Bass and brought in Big Baby would require a few entra hunder thousand of cap space for it to go through, as salaries need to be within 150%. Bass was set to earn about 4 mil, and Big Baby looks like he will get around 6 mil, which is 150%. So, does this mean we still have the full MLE at our disposal??!?!
