Chances CP3 comes to ATL

Post#1 » by ATL Boy » Fri Dec 9, 2011 8:05 pm

Does anyone know if we're still in the Chris Paul sweepstakes after the LAL Deal got vetoed or are we out of the running?

50-50.........

Teague is still a good offer, but not great

I think New Orleans is worried about Rondo's age, because it will take the Hornets a good 3 years to rebuild at best.

GSW, Clippers, Celtics, and now the Lakers, all these deals are falling apart and Atlanta is still standing.

and if you get Paul, Dwight will soon request a trade.

No chance. If paul get traded he is going to the lakers. If the hornets were to trade him someone else all hell will break loose. The only choices paul have is to play the season in new orleans and leave as a free agent. Or david stern allow the trade to the lakers

not going to happen.

and New Orleans already said that they don't want a Carmelo (and or Lebron) situation.

What other situation is there other than a "Carmelo and/or Lebron" situation? He either get's traded now, signs a contract extension with the Hornets,or he leaves them next year with nothing but a useless 1st round pick and a trade exception at best. The 3rd option seems by far the most likely and that's exactly what Lebron did.

Clear one thing up for me. Are you saying the Hawks should trade for Chris Paul even if he won't sign an extension or that Chris Paul is willing to sign an extension with the Hawks?

I personally like a trade of Teague and Josh Smith for a resigned CP3 and maybe okafor/arize maybe we throw in a 2013 first rounder, I think that trade can compete with the others.

I don't think Paul will resign with the Hawks though. I don't even think he'd sign with a team like OKC or Boston.

I think he might, he's a player that wants to compete for titles, and our sales pitch can be that we'd have a great core and big 3 of Horford Paul and Joe in tact for at least 3 years (after which we can amnesty Joe because of his absurd deal) he can also help recruit free agents to Atlanta. He's already said that Atlanta is a great place to live; but of course before doing this trade we have to meet with Paul, and if he says he won't resign then no deal.

i'm okay with no extension. after playing a season with a perfect back court teammate in Joe and two talented bigs who are the best at running the floor in Smoove and Horford, the Hawks will be on par with the Bulls and Heat. Paul will enjoy winning and being close to home.

once Dwight sees that his home team has an elite point guard, he will be requesting for a trade back home.

Zero now. Stern's logic in killing the trade precludes any trade for Paul working. To get Paul we'd need cap space next season with no team that he likes better having cap space because the only Paul can leave New Orleans is via free agency.

Lakers are still gonna get CP3, amidst all the hoopla no-one checked the trade machine to see that the proposed trade yesterday did not even work. The Lakers will have to take back Okafor that is all.

I doubt it will be Okafor. More likely it's Ariza who's seen as a bad deal. If they got Okafor, I'd argue that the Lakers need to include picks because he's a serviceable big.

Ariza does not make the trade work financially, but Okafor does. Try it for yourself.

But why does it matter whose seen as a bad deal for the Lakers? Okafor's contract is definitely worse for the Hornets.

Superiorblogman is also right about yesterday's alleged deal not working in the trade checker. I just think that people are insane if they think the Lakers would trade over 30 points and 20 rebounds of production unless they got another big man in the trade or already had a trade lined up for Howard contingent on that they get CP3.

If the hawks really wanted CP3, they would be going after him by now and actually make an offer.
