Billups To Retire?

Post#1 » by WillyJakkz » Fri Dec 9, 2011 8:42 pm

Saw this tweet from another website:

Chauncey Billups, reportedly scheduled to be fired by the New York Knicks to clear salary-cap room for Tyson Chandler, will consider retiring from the NBA if he is claimed off waivers by a team he deems undesirable, according to his agent. Acting under terms of the new collective bargaining agreement, the Knicks were preparing to apply the one-time amnesty clause to Billups' contract, shedding his $14.2 million wage from their payroll and landing him on the league's waiver wire. ESPN NY

"But I wouldn't be surprised if Chauncey retired rather than play for a team he wouldn't want to play for," said Andy Miller, agent for the 35-year-old point guard. "He doesn't need the money, his kids are getting to an age where he wants to be an active participant, and he doesn't need the frustration and instability he's constantly dealing with. So he may choose not to play." ESPN NY

"Chauncey's pissed off, but he's not pissed at the Knicks," Miller said. "He understands it's a business and they have to do what they have to do. "But he's in a very frustrated state of mind because this has happened to him twice now. The way the league is structured, if you're a hot name and teams have interest in you, you have the ability to manufacture mass hysteria, and guys like Chauncey who put in years of high-level leadership, production, and service get lost." ESPN NY

Dude still has something left.

Who'd convince him to not retire, I don't get it.

This is just a chain reaction isn't it? It won't stop until something devastating happens.

It's an emotion based reaction. He'll probably get picked up by Denver and everything will be fine.

I might just be a tactic so a bad team doesn't pick him up.

I felt that way when I heard the news too. Could see why most of the league is tired of this kind of crap going on. Especially guys like Billups that have always brought a lot to the table.

The Knicks probably have the worst backcourt in the NBA now.

I can't believe these morons cry about making $14.2 million. Pretty sure your kids will understand. Not to mention you can take them with you where ever you are. you're on the road half the time regardless of where you play.

NBA shouldve never come out of the lockout.

Nothing was resolved and its a bigger mess now than it ever was.

The Jazz should sign him. We'll at least give him the respect that he deserves.

its his way of telling teams he wants to decide where he wants to go. If a team he does not want to go to picks him up, he will just not play.

Honestly, if that is the case, Knicks could probably trade him along with a second rounder for a trade exception to a bad team, and if he doesnt show up, pretty much Knicks get a trade exception giving up nothing, and the team making the trade gets a second rounder for nothing. Would work for both lol.

I'll say it again, the Thunder should put in a bid. It's a win-win for both sides.

+1000000000000

Things seem even worse off than before the lockout, nothing has been fixed, nothing has changed.

the bidding system is just to prevent cut players from going to NY, LAL, Boston, Miami, OKC, Dallas (ie contenders). These guys cut are older and dont want to go to the places that will bid for them

League (ie holdout owners) got this bidding system put in, and players are trying to get around it already.

Im pretty sure he would play for the Thunder, so it would be a good move for both no doubt. This statement by Chauncey is to say to teams like Cleveland- dont even f'n think about bidding on me lol.

Sound like more of, "lets scare the crappy teams away from picking me up" from him and his agent.
