Center situation

Post#1 » by delonte » Sat Dec 10, 2011 12:53 am

this is our biggest area of concern imo. right now were filled with below average centers and non of them can rebound.

who can we snag off the free agent market or trade for?

I'd take a look at jeff foster and Joel phryzbilla. both are solid defenders, can block shots, and rebound.

how u?

Foster re-signed...
Pryzbilla apparently is not playing this season...

It's going to be another year of struggles at C.

I would love it if we sent Bosh's finesse game packing to Orlando for Dwight Howard. I know that can't happen because it would make Riley and the Heat look terrible.

it won't happen cause The Magic would never trade Dwight to us, we're both in the Southeast division.

ive been thinking about our Center situation, and im optimistic for 2 reasons :

1) i got a gut feeling Riely isnt done yet. we still have the MLE guys. that's about 5 mil per year. i doubt that Samuel Dalembert or Kwame Brown could get much more than that from other teams at this point. and if they do, it would be on crappy teams. it's quite possible we land one of them IMO.

2) i think Eddy Curry and Dexter Pittman both have potential to suprise us, in a good way. (being an upgrade over what we had last season isnt that hard to acomplish). both have great size and could bring most of what need from our Center position.

Not sure if im in the minority, but I'd be really contented with Kwame as the final signing

Wouldn't mind this at all. Much better then putting all our hope on Curry at the C.

Kwame can't finish strong at the rim, and he has butterfingers with his small hands.

If it's a last resort, I guess we could be optimistic, but at this point, I am not happy at all with settling for Kwame Brown.

We don't have the MLE or the Bi-annual unless we amnesty Miller. Presumably we spent the mini-mle on Battier. As of now I think we can only sign minimum guys.

And how does Curry look to Bosh?

"Looks good. Looks good," Bosh said.

Wade, who has worked out with Curry often -- they are both pupils of trainer Tim Grover in Chicago -- said he was also impressed.

"It was good to see him come in," Wade said of Curry, who was listed at six-foot-11 and 295 pounds in his last NBA stint. "Just to walk in, I haven't seen nobody walk through them doors that big in a long time. So it was good to see."

KBergCBS Ken Berger
Also possible for Dalembert would be Dallas, which would get $12M trade exception in Tyson Chandler sign/trade being worked with Knicks.

I think he's just speculating here but still...if this does happen...wow. They already have a overpaid Center on their squad....yep I can see Cuban doing this.

I'd prefer Kwame to JO. I think for the most part we're going to be playing a lot with Haslem and Bosh in the 4/5 spots in the clutch. So I don't know how important the center spot is going to be to us this year.

I think with Battier, Miller, Jones on the bench--the smart play would be to go small and fast. If Spo can get us to play more up tempo and force more turnovers, we could dominate.

True you raise a good point but I think that we still need a strong C to stand there and demand attention, contest a few shots and finish when they are wide open.

If Curry is in shape he can provide all of things for us and we won't have to worry but if he isn't in shape we are screw at the C position for another year. Although it doesn't matter as much as other problems it is still a problem

Once a year, teams are allowed to sign a player to a contract equal to the average NBA salary, even if the team is over the salary cap already, or if the signing would put them over the cap

Mario = Larry Bird exception
Battier = mini MLE

last year's MLE = 5.8 Mil $

Come on, we have to find someone better than Joel for that.

We do not have MLE because we are a tax paying team. (over the cap)
