Re: Offseason/Free-Agency 2011 Thread
I don't like this condensed offseason. It's really hard to keep up with all that is happening. I wouldn't be surprised if there are more signings and trades even after the season starts.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

Apparently, the Rockets wanted to re-unite the Gasol brothers before the CP3 three-way deal was rejected for a second time:

mkwest mentioned elsewhere that there were rumors of an Iggy-to-Orlando three-way deal involving Jason Richardon, which makes some sense given the Sixers recent re-signing of Thaddeus Young, but the Magic just inked J-Rich to a 4-year $25 million deal.
There's also talk that the T-Wolves may oblige new coach Rick Adelman's desire to have Kevin Martin join him in Minnesota:
Bill Ingram, HoopsWorld (12/11/11 - 11:00am EST)

With DJ unlikely to leave the Clips, would the Golden State Warriors go back and re-focus on their efforts to acquire Andre Iguodala, especially now that the Clippers have Caron Butler? Would Philadelphia be more open to such overtures after committing to Young? Plus, don't forget Josh Smith is still angling to find his way out of Atlanta.
Royce Young, CBS Sports (12/11/11)
First, it was going to be Pau Gasol, possibly combined with Nene. Now that neither of those things appear to be happening, Morey and the Rockets are going to try and get their Gasol anyway. But in this case, the younger, fuzzier version that's also known as Marc.
According to multiple reports, the Rockets are preparing a four-year, $55 million offer sheet for Marc Gasol. The thinking is, if the Grizzlies don't plan to match the offer sheet on Gasol who is a restricted free agent, Memphis would work a sign-and-trade with the Rockets.
...
There's a chance Gasol just wants to leave Memphis and if he resists the Grizzlies matching, that's where the chance of a sign-and-trade comes in. I think you be sure the Grizzlies want to match, but it's just a matter of if Gasol wants to be there or not.

The Indiana Pacers agreed on a two-year, $20 million deal with free-agent forward David West, a source close to the situation told ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard.
The Hornets had been in discussions to send West to Boston in a sign-and-trade deal but NBA.com reported Sunday that those talks ended, which opened the door for Indiana to land West.
The Pacers may not be done dealing, though.
The Memphis Grizzlies are in advanced discussions with Indiana on a sign-and-trade deal that would bring free agent Josh McRoberts to the Grizzlies and send guard O.J. Mayo to the Pacers, according to sources close to the process.
The Pacers, sources say, also have Carl Landry and Andrei Kirilenko at the top of their frontcourt wish list.

...the New Orleans Hornets were set to acquire Kevin Martin from the Houston Rockets, the Minnesota Timberwolves immediately prepared an offer for Martin. Now that Martin is no longer headed to the Hornets, don’t be surprised if the Timberwolves make an overture to Houston. Head coach Rick Adelman would love to have Martin back in his lineup.

Gilbert Arenas has cleared waivers and is now a free-agent. It'll be interesting to see where he ends up.

I read somewhere today that Arenas hopes to sign with the team that eventually lands Howard. Unfortunately, I don't recall where I read it. Plus, the Magic are still contemplating filing tampering charges against the Nets as they collect evidence and info even as they consider New Jersey's trade offer for him along with those from the rest of the league.
It also looks like a lock that Rip Hamilton will sign with the Bulls for 2 years at the full MLE after he is bought out by the Pistons, but then again we thought West to the Celtics and Paul to the Lakers were done deals too:
K.C. Johnson, Chicago Tribune (12/11/11)
As for Hamilton, his buyout thus far is only a verbal agreement and has yet to be signed, according to two sources familiar with the situation. Once the buyout becomes official, Hamilton will have to clear waivers, which is considered a virtual certainty. He then would have to pass a physical, also considered a formality.
The Bulls have had advanced conversations about signing the three-time All-Star and, according to SI.com, one team executive who inquired about Hamilton was told "it's a lock" he's landing in Chicago. The Tribune reported in its Saturday editions that the Bulls were the leaders to acquire Hamilton, whom they had interest in last season as well.
The Detroit News reported Saturday afternoon that Hamilton's buyout is for roughly $8 million of the $19 million he is owed. The Tribune reported in Saturday editions the Bulls have talked about at least a two-year deal worth $5 million annually. That represents the mid-level exception and, at $10 million over two years, recoups Hamilton's giveback in the buyout.

Re: Offseason/Free-Agency 2011 Thread
Mo or Billups / Billups or Mo / EB / Willie
EJ / Foye / Leslie
Butler / Gomes /Aminu
Griffin / Thompkins / Cook
Jordan / Kaman
This is the current roster. We do in fact have an exception for $2.5M that can be used to make another signing if necessary.
We have the maximum amount of players on the roster at 15, but are still thin in the front court. Somebody like Warren or Cook could be waived if we had the opportunity to sign another big man. I still believe that we may see a lot of Gomes at the back-up 4 spot. Everybody has been raving about Thompkins in training camp, so it is possible that he may see some floor time. His natural position is the 4, but perhaps he could play some 5 in a pinch.

It's exciting to hear how well Thompkins is looking so far. It would be great if he could be a solid backup to Blake and/or DJ.

Unless the Clippers get Chris Paul with Chauncey Billups as a willing backup, Mo Williams looks to be with us for the remainder of his contract. Even after such a successful trade, the team is not going to just dump him, so I wouldn't get your hopes up for him being amnestied.

Eric Gordon on possibility he will re-up with Clippers by Jan. 25 deadline: "I wouldn’t leave here at all. I wouldn’t think about it.”
Pedro Moura
Well there you have it. I hope we're able to extend him, so that it's no longer an issue.

Wow. There are no Clipper fans. All the latest posts are from other teams' people.
This room be quite all this time?
Wake up. You just got Chris Paul.....
Question is - what the heck you gonna do with 4 point guards (Paul, Billups, MoWill, Bledsoe) ?!?!?!

Billups will probably play mostly 2 guard, and Bledsoe is still recovering from offseason knee surgery so we it's not exactly how it looks.

I don't want to read this whole thread but what is your cap situation looking like after the trade? DO you have more cap space for free agents?

We have a $2.5M exception and that's pretty much it. We're over the cap atm.
