Who gets the minutes this season?

Post#1 » by mid-post » Tue Dec 6, 2011 1:42 am

I know it's not the most interesting topic in the world, but honestly, there really isn't too much to talk about right now; the front office probably isn't going to be making any major moves and they really don't need to make too many. *edit* check that, we need some back up center action, right?

So the way I see it:
Rudy 30-35+ minutes per game
Conley 30-35+ minutes per game
ZBo 35 minutes per
Marc 30-35 minutes per
Darell 20+
OJ 20
TA 15-20+
Sam 10-15+
Selby 10-15
Greivis ?
Xavier?

I wouldn't be surprised at all if one of the shooting guards gets moved by the trade deadline. It's a total log-jam there and Memphis needs to definitely shore up some depth for the center spot. Although maybe Thabeet will get amnestied and we can pick him up for peanuts. 8-)
It will be interesting to see how the whole TA, OJ, Xavier and Sam thing gets played out. Hopefully we just have Rudy play a handful fewer minutes than he did last year, but even then, things seem tight from the wing spots, especially with Young getting better and some potential for improvement from Henry.
X-man might be the odd man out in all this, maybe get sent to the DLeague, maybe just be glued to the bench if he can't step up. Or he could be traded. Then again, there are teams out there interested in OJ.

TA should be closing out games for you guys. I really am impressed with his D! I'd also say OJ should be more around 25 minutes!

Good luck this season Grizz, I'll be watching ya on League pass

i am afraid sam become the odd man out. also oj's expansion is an issue. It becomes difficult. Don't think Greivis or X-men will be traded

Selby is a rookie and Vasquez is a 2nd year proven talent. Selby will have to earn minutes first. I would drop off his minutes and assume Vasquez gets all the time behind Conley available initially. Because of the brutal schedule this season some guys are going to sit out games and guys are going to have to fill in a lot. There will be plenty of minutes to go around. A tough night where Rudy Gay plays 40 minutes followed by an easy match would guarantee 15 minutes the next night for Sam Young for example. Xavier Henry also has to earn minutes from OJ/ Tony Allen and Sam. They said this is still his rookie season.

Minutes won't be the norm this season. The compressed schedule & back-to-back-to-backs should skew minutes. Back ups could end up with more minutes that would be expected.

Conley - 34mins
TA - 24 mins
Gay - 37 mins
Zbo - 34/35 mins
Marc - 32/33 mins

Arthur - 22 mins
OJ - 22-24 mins
Sam/Henry - 11 mins (wouldn't be surprised if one of them replace TA in the starting lineup as reported in the CA)
Vasquez - 14 mins (maybe Selby take this spot)

If we sign a quality big like McRoberts, he will get around 12-15mins as well.
