ERIC BLEDSOE INJURY UPDATE

Los Angeles Clippers guard Eric Bledsoe underwent surgery to repair a torn lateral meniscus in his right knee on October 7th. He is expected to be sidelined approximately 6-8 weeks.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Benton Emblom at the Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Alabama. Bledsoe has been cleared to take part in hydro-cardio therapy and strength work and he is expected to increase his workload by the beginning of the regular season.

A member of the 2010-11 T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie Second Team, Bledsoe averaged 6.7 points, 3.6 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 22.7 minutes in 81 games played last season.

Clippers guard Eric Bledsoe recovering from knee surgery

Clippers second-year guard Eric Bledsoe had surgery on a torn ligament in his right knee Oct. 7, the Clippers said in a press release Friday night after the team’s first practice.

At the time of the surgery, Bledsoe was scheduled to be out six to eight weeks. That timetable, which already is exceeded, puts him in line to return to practice pretty soon.

The Clippers were unable to announce Bledsoe’s injury sooner because the NBA prohibited teams from talking about players during the lockout.

Brad Turner, LA Times

I prefer this version of the news, but the press release has him out until mid to late January :sigh:

The organization couldn't speak about it because of the lockout. They would have had to have been notified by a neutral third party since the players and team officials weren't able to interact. They might have just found out today like us.

What a start to the season... Maybe Warren will get some playing time.

Why didn't he have it during the summer?

INJURY NEWS

Second-year guard Eric Bledsoe is out for approximately three weeks as he recovers from offseason surgery to repair a torn lateral meniscus in his right knee.

Rookie guard Travis Leslie also missed practice. He is day-to-day with a sprained ankle.

“I hurt it on October 7,” Bledsoe said. “I had surgery two days after I did it.”

Depending on Bledsoe’s recovery, it’s likely that Gordon and combo guard Randy Foye will spend some time at the point. It may also open up an opportunity for 2010 second-round pick Willie Warren.

“We have a lot of faith in Willie Warren in an emergency capacity,” Olshey said. “He went down and dismantled the D-League in his time down there. He came back and booked more workout time in this gym than any other player on this roster from the end of the season to the beginning of the work stoppage.”

Del Negro lamented the fact that Bledsoe would miss the preseason and likely the early part of the regular-season schedule.

“You know, training camps and exhibition games are a good time for those guys really to work on their game,” Del Negro said. “But you can’t control the injuries. We’ll get them [Bledsoe and Leslie] back soon and we’re going to need them, especially Eric.

“He’s getting better and he’s probably ahead of schedule now, which is good.”

Olshey echoed Bledsoe’s recovery, calling the Alabama native “country tough.”

We have some conflicting reports, but 3 weeks wouldn't be the end of the world.

Now that's a start to the season...

I hope he's not out for that long, but we still need to add a solid 3rd string vet at pg, IMO.

Clippers guard Eric Bledsoe out until January recovering from surgery

The Clippers added some clarity to the timeframe for when guard Eric Bledsoe would return from surgery to repair torn cartilage in his right knee.

Bledsoe had surgery Oct. 7 and is expected to be out six to eight weeks. The Clippers said that time period for Bledsoe to heal started Dec. 9 and the 6-1 point guard probably will be out of action until late January.

Bledsoe, who turned 22 this week, is a second-year player out of Kentucky. As a rookie, he played in 81 games and started 25. He averaged 6.7 points, 3.6 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists.

Brad Turner, LA Times

:sigh:

If he comes back on the 25th, he will have missed the first 14 games. 18 if he misses all of January.
