I guess some people are just happy with otis leading us to mediocrity. I want the Magic to win a championship sometimes in the future, and otis is not the guy to able to do that. I wish he proves me wrong, but looking at the past history, I don't see it.

Yes, I know we went to the finals, but anyone can go to the finals with Dwight Howard at C and unlimited money given by RDV.

I can tell he loves this city, but it was a hard decision for him to make... I respect that he owned up to it and announced... came clean and was honest... and that's what I've been asking for the past few days

It kind of sounded like... I don't know the right analogy or metaphor... but it's like almost disappointing your parents with a tough decision (we've all been there haven't we?)... but at the end of the day, it's his life, and his decision... and he loves the city, but outside the game of basketball... that's straight

professionally though... he's ready to leave... and it's cool... and i'm upset that the front office completely dropped the ball (Otis)... that's where all my anger and sadness and angst is towards... Dwight... good luck, thanks for at least telling us... it sucks.. you're probably going to get booed... live with it, it's a part of sports... but no one is going to hate you just because you have another jersey on, except when you're playing us... at least you didn't trash our city and organization like Shaq and T-Mac did... you at least kept it real. Later Dwight, adios. On to the future! Magic's next chapter. It's a bright one :) Changes will be made.

Yeah, from the way it sounds, he doesn't plan on even moving.

He said that he's keeping his house here, and is going to keep living there. I don't know if he meant it, but still.......

I'm finding it harder and harder to be mad at him.....

I mean, if we are all this pissed at Otis, imagine how he must feel?

Otis and Dwight just didn't see eye to eye on certain concepts, team ideologies, and players... I'm not saying they disagreed all the time... but I think there was enough disagreement and egos clashing that warranted Dwight the frustration... even as fans, we can empathize with him... the team Dwight was surrounded with was just not what he wanted, and we could see that... it was overachieving at times, and he really needed help (a 2nd or 3rd TRUE Star).

I wish Otis didn't tinker with/mess up that 2009 Finals team. Should have just kept the chemistry and team as is. :(

We appear to be as split as the Magic front office is.

I just want a resolution.

lol, you want to blame the guy who's the SOLE REASON we were in the finals because he has an achilles heal??? you want to blame our lack of a ring on the fact Dwight has never been able to hit FTs? is his 3/4 times DPOTY not enough for you?

maybe if Otis had given him SOME LEGIT FREAKING HELP we wouldn't be relying on Dwight making his free throws and playing the perfect game.

heck, when Dirk had his cold moments in the finals he at least had Jason Terry backing him up.

here's another thing - if Dwight comes back this season and is capable of making FTs because of his new FT coach, then why the heck didn't the FO bring him in a long time ago?

GTFO if you want to pretend Otis made winning moves. the only reason Otis' team made the finals was because he was lucky enough to have Dwight doing ALL THE FREAKING WORK.

Who said anything about Dwight playing a perfect game? Maybe making your FTs at the end of games would help though. You know. Something we needed from our "leader" in that one finals game that would have sealed the win and took the series to a 2-2 tie. Or how about the 2nd game where he also missed FTs late that could have tied the game. Lee of course missed that layup.

Seriously. Get off Howard's johnson.

wait, you seriously want to rely on a guy who consistently struggles with his FTs to win you a championship at the FT line?

you do realise how irrational that is, don't you?

man shaq and his free throw shooting, good thing no one relied on him to win a ring........oh wiait

I'm ready for Heart and Hustle 2.0

I want to see Harper, Liggins, Orton, Clark (is he coming back or not?), and the young guys step up and develop... there's going to be a lot of growing pains.

Excellent post.

I'm just tired of this fire Otis crap. I'm not saying i agree with all his moves, but he tried and that's more than i can say for some other GM's. The whole Magic organization deserves a standing ovation for what they have done for Dwight. The owner spent obscene amounts of money, the coach SVG has stood up to the NBA to protect him against the beating he takes, even going as far as to get fined for it.

Otis has consistently tried to upgrade the roster. He brought in the best free agent on the market in Rashard Lewis and it took us to the finals. We lost because we didn't have a go to wing scorer so he got Vince Carter and we made it to the conference finals but Vince was a disappointment. Last year we looked dead in the water and he pulled off a trade that had us looking red hot until it fell apart. And lost to a Hawks team looking for revenge for the beating we put on them a year earlier.

Dwight has been an All-Star garnering the greatest total votes ever, we built a new arena and he was in movie and all kinds of stuff. all in Orlando. Yet he's gonna leave our franchise because he reportedly didn't get his voice heard in trades? Are you kidding me? I'm sorry but this is not on The Orlando MAgic or Otis Smith. It's all on the big broad shoulders of the so called Superman

The year the Magic went to the finals, I believe we were under or right at the cap. We didn't start spending big until the season after that.

Now we are once again under or right at the cap.

Unfortunately you remind me of today's player. You think everything should be given to you and nothing should be earned. 99% of the time it doesn't work that way, not in the NBA or in life for that matter.

Jordan had Pippen + Grant + Rodman + Kukoc + whoever.

Dirk had Nash + Finley + Kidd + Marion + Terry + whoever else

Shaq had Penny + Kobe + Wade + whoever

Dwight had Rashard Lewis + Hedo + Nelson + VC + JRich + Arenas

tell me you can see the discrepancy there. the difference is that those former winners had management that could put legit help around their stars. we don't.

I agree 100%. Otis didn't do everything right, but good lord the Magic did A LOT right and more than enough to keep said player happy.

Howard is basically giving in to what happened in Miami. If Lebron never signs in Miami, I think Howard stays in Orlando with out question. He is just using every excuse in the book to get out of division because A) he is a scared and B) he wants to do what Lebron/Wade/Bosh did, which IMO makes him no better than them and IMO is what the biggest problem with the NBA today is. Too much self entitlement and not enough wanting to earn that ring.

Return to Orlando Magic
