Yes, I know we went to the finals, but anyone can go to the finals with Dwight Howard at C and unlimited money given by RDV.
The year the Magic went to the finals, I believe we were under or right at the cap. We didn't start spending big until the season after that.
Now we are once again under or right at the cap.
So we r going back to the finals this year?
You never know.

And you do realize that Wade and Kobe have zero titles right now if not for Shaq (well Kobe might have a few due to the Gasol for Brown rape).
In fact Shaq was so dominating from 2000 through 2002, you could have put any good SG beside him and you would have gotten the same results. Shaq's numbers in the playoffs those 3 year were off the charts.

Re: Official Speculation & Free Agency Thread (Part IV)
I'm not taking Dwight's side, but what was Otis thinking not letting Dwight in on what moves Orlando was going to make??? I mean, if Dwight is our star, then we should value his opinion. All he wants is more guys to help him win. Orlando won't listen to him and they've backed him into a corner and he tells them he wants out. Don't get me wrong, I'm still freaking pissed off at Dwight, but I understand why he's doing this. If Orlando gets him some serious help (Chris Paul, Deron Williams, or Monta Ellis), then he might stay. But, if he leaves, then I will boo him like there's no tomorrow. I'm a fan of MY TEAM! I don't like the team because of him.
Also, is anyone else with me that he would look strange in any other jersey that's NOT a Magic jersey?

Not changing this Sig until the Orlando Magic win a championship (Technically Started 1-30-08)

Idunkonyou2 wrote:GTFO with that logic......The only things I can really blame Otis for was the snap trades of last year. Again he was trying to create a spark that the team was obviously lacking. His timing sucked though. So because of that 1 YEAR, Howard and the fans are now saying Otis didn't do his job? I guess you could say that about every GM in the league then because lighting doesn't happen in a bottle EVERY F'ING YEAR.
It is unfreaking believable that we still have people still blind on this board.
Why don't YOU get out with that logic. I can finally say this board is now overwhelmingly over the Otis defenders and your are in the minority. Otis STANK from the time he signed Rashard to that contract that tied up a large part of our assets and made them untradeable except for an even worse contract. People like Cp are on record saying they wanted to join Dwight but could they? No because like an idiot Otis bid against himself for the max contract on Rashard. Its like he was the only one that didn't know the big free agency crop would be available in a few years, that hey if I sign a player to a figure that no one else wants to pay I might be stuck with him and unable to improve the roster. The man has no foresight to be a professional GM.
I'm tired of hearing we made it to the finals ONE year where we got totally dusted by LA and its questionable we make it there at all without an injury to KG. We held the best center in the league FOR YEARS. He even reupped with us . We had an owner that backed up the brinks truck and said "here Otis help yourself" and when it came time for Dwight to walk could we find a SINGLE player that Otis had signed that anybody even with any combination wanted? No because Every year we had scrubs and no legitimate number two all we could hear was was "I like this team" like no one else was improving.
Rather than being wise and keeping his assets tradeable he just overspent over and over and over again on contracts. His trades SUCKED too but the Otis defenders were on about how he made a wonderful trade because Ariza was anatomically prone to injuries and would be out of the league in no time
Then he decided that Vince was the answer and tied up more assets when the book on carter is he hadn't put a team over the hump since Oswald shot Kennedy. Then he let Hedo walk because it was too much money like finally he had developed some responsibility but nah its cool come back Hedo at an exorbitant figure and oh take Gortat Suns while you are at it.
Now with all his foibles , missteps and incompetencies we hear that he was arrogant enough not to listen to his star player. Time for Orlando fans to grow up and act like a real sports town that expects to win. Its this loser mentality that "oh we made it to the finals once" with the best center in the league that allows for this lack of unaccountability in your FOs. Heads should be rolling instead that we had the best center in the league FOR YEARS, one of the highest payrolls in the league and failed to put a number two besides him but instead we get "oh Otis is great because we got slaughtered in the finals once and made it to the ECF a few times and got our heads handed to us there too.
Rant over. Thought finally we would stop hearing that garbage.

Over the last three seasons we have made the finals, and conference finals.Of super stars like Chris Paul, Melo, Amare, Wade, Bosh, Lebron only LeBron has done it and he had to pair up with Wade and Bosh to do it. Over the past three season only two franchises have won more games than us. As much as we may think Otis isn't doing his job, he sure did it a sight better than the other general managers with the other super stars. He has always tried to put the best product on the floor. But we aren't the Lakers guys. We don't get super stars for scraps. It is what it is. Dwight wants to leave, then so be it.
Excellent post.
I'm just tired of this fire Otis crap. I'm not saying i agree with all his moves, but tired and that's more than i can say for some other GM's. The whole Magic organization deserves a standing ovation for what they have done for Dwight. The owner spent obscene amounts of money, the coach SVG has stood up to the NBA to protect him against the beating he takes, even going as far as to get fined for it.
Otis has consistently tried to upgrade the roster. He brought in the best free agent on the market in Rashard Lewis and it won took us to the finals. We lost because we didn't have a go to wing scorer so he got Vince Carter and we made it to the conference finals but Vince was a disappointment. Last year we looked dead in the water and he pulled off a trade that had us looking red hot until it fell apart. And lost to a Hawks team looking for revenge for the beating we put on them a year earlier.
Dwight has been an All-Star garnering the greatest total votes ever, we built a new arena and he was in movie and all kinds of stuff. all in Orlando. Yet he's gonna leave our franchise because he reportedly didn't get his voice heard in trades? Are you kidding me? I'm sorry but this is not on The Orlando MAgic or Otis Smith. It's all on the big broad shoulders of the so called Superman
We talk about foresight in the business world....I'm sorry but if Otis was a CEO of a fortune 500 company he would have been gone years ago. You do not take on that kind of salary in the market you are in, get no results, and expect to keep your job. Orlando spent almost $80 million on player salaries last year and got eliminated in the first round. I'm sorry, but in real life if your not good at your job you are fired. The Magic are a business, and Otis failed to run the business of the Orlando Magic properly, there for Otis Smith deserves to be relieved of his duties

Watch Dwight addressing the media on first day of practice yesterday then look at him today

Dodging question on the first knowing he asked to be traded then trying to deflect the blame then next day

From Otis:
"Regardless of what he requests, our objective is to keep him as a member of the Orlando Magic basketball team."
This might get weird.

Well then get Iggy and Ellis Otis and do it now.
Also I can't believe people in here think Lee/Alston > Carter/Anderson? I need a good hit of what they are smoking right now.

I nearly stopped there myself. He goes on at the end to say he does not expect them to trade Dwight this week...or ever.
He still likes this team, wtf if wrong with him?
