WTF: Pacers ready to sign West if Boston deal falls apart

Post#1 » by Pacersike » Sun Dec 11, 2011 7:44 am

The Pacers have positioned themselves to sign David West should negotiations between the Celtics and Hornets on a sign-and-trade fall apart on Sunday, according to sources.

The Celtics can offer the first three years in the $24 million to $25 million range, but the fourth year would likely not be fully guaranteed.

Several sources believed there would be a resolution Sunday.

Indiana has been in talks with West on a two-year deal that would pay him a higher annual salary.

West would prefer to sign with Boston, which would give him the opportunity to start alongside Kevin Garnett.

Nice move.

Could put extra pressure on a Rondo trade.

We should just go to 3 years. I expected us to be stingy with money but you've gotten open up a little for West or Nene. The deal West agreed to with Boston was nearly chump change. 3 years, 25 mil or something? **** man.

chump change for a healthy West perhaps, but can you be sure that's what you'd be getting?

Yeah, I can understand not wanting to pay 34-year-old David West 9 mil.

Worse players have been paid more at older ages. And an expiring contract always has value around the league anyways.

I don't ignore the risk, but I believe him to be worth it. Nene has had multiple significant injuries, but everyone seems to be on board with giving him 4 years and 13-14 per.

But hey if we can actually get him for 2 years, I'm all for it. If it's 2 years, 20-22 mil, thats better than 3 and 25. And we're arguably as good as Boston this year (and certainly moving forward) with him.

Boston used to be a middling team for years, players & fans shouldn't just assume they'll always be some sort of dominant force. They lack any depth whatsoever and rely almost solely on pricey 35 year olds.

2 years contract for West is perfect for the Pacers. By the time of expirng, Tyler Hansbrough also finish his rookie contract.

Pacers still need to spend substantial money to hit the 85% CBA requirement? I'd pay a premium to get West for two years. Say 2 years 12-13mil per year.

It's only going to be 80% this year, but right now, we're probably looking at around $51 million spent, now. That is, if you include Posey's $7.6 million. West looks to be $10 million, Foster probably around $3 million (conservatively), George Hill $1.5 million, Pendergraph between $1-2 million. We already had $35 million spent. I think we'll be ok without having to waste money.
