I'm told there's no way Lakers are trading Bynum and Gasol for Dwight Howard.

If reports are correct, it would have been a three team deal - Gasol to GSW, Steph Curry and pieces to NOH, Paul to L.A.
If it really was in order to land Paul, all the salary dumping in the world wouldn't be enough to get them Dwight as a FA with CP3 and Kobe on the roster.
Acutally the Lakers could.
Kobe's 2012 salary is $27.8 million.
They could amnesty Artest. Walton will retire. They would only need to trade Fisher and Blake for expiring.
The only contract they would have is Kobe's $27.8 mil
Thats about about $30 mil for CP3 and Howard.
It could be more is Kobe restructures his contract.

@ryankroberson No chance Fran Vazquez plays for the Magic this season. Next season, yes, a strong chance. Not this one, though.

This. No way Otis can just accept Bynum. He can't be that stupid.

After trading Odom, are Lakers about to get Howard or maybe revisit Paul trade again? Source: "There's nothing going on."

Dwight must have assured them he is coming, because i don't see NJ doing anything to get the trade. LA doesn't get rid of assets for nothing. I still don't think we will take Bynum.
Woj is the new Bucher. Shams is the new Woj. Espn is the new TMZ. The NBA is the new WWE.
Boo.
Boo.

Re: Official Speculation & Free Agency Thread (Part V) NEW S
So if, IF we do make the trade for Bynum and pieces, what about bringing in another team to take Bynum if we are so worried about his knees. With Memphis possibly losing Gasol we could get Rudy Gay, Mayo and maybe a pick.
Or Clippers since they might lose Jordan. Aminu, Bledsoe, Min pick and their pick
Wolves have some young talent. I would love Rubio but dont think that will happen.
GSW for Curry picks and young players
Bobcats for young talent and picks
Cavs for picks and shed salary
Nuggets if they lose Nene
On another note I had a crazy dream of a trade (I was playing 2k12 all night so that might be why)
It was like a 6 team trade. Cant remember the exact details though. I just remember out team was basically:
CP3
Mayo/Redick
Granger
Donatas motiejunas
Noah
Not to bad.

Maybe Otis was telling the truth when he said we aren't trading Dwight.
He better have some kind of deal lined up, then.

Thats about about $30 mil for CP3 and Howard.
It could be more is Kobe restructures his contract.
Paul's cap hold against the Lakers next summer would be $21m or so, leaving $10m or so for Dwight. Maybe they are both willing to take a pay cut to make it work - however if one or both of them is not there by Jan 1st, then L.A doesn't have their Bird rights. A 4 year deal starting at $15m and with 4.5% raises (which is all they are allowed if they don't have Bird rights) is worth about $64m, or almost $50m less than they could get over five years with their current teams.
Also, the restructuring rule hasn't been made 100% clear yet. I know deals can now be negotiated down, but in the past, a player had to be at least 3 years removed from signing the contract before he could re-negotiate it at all - Kobe's most recent extension was signed in July 2010. If that rule still stands, he can't re-negotiate. Even if he can, you're relying on a man reaching the end of his career being willing to give back a lot of money. If Dwight and/or Paul aren't in L.A by the beginning of January, he'd have to give back a huge chunk of money in order for either of them to get a deal approaching fair for their ability and worth.
Fact remains, if one of CP3 or Dwight lands in L.A via trade, the other will have to too, because signing outright as a free agent is going to be exceptionally difficult and probably cost them a lot of money.
