Instead of Shifting Horford to PF where Drew once infamously said he'd be a beast the Hawks went out and got a PF who can shoot 3s...
How is this is part of Drew's strategy?
" Drew said Vladimir Radmanovich is the kind of knock-down shooter he was hoping to get. He said he noticed during extensive Synergy study that Radmanovich has a knack for quickly getting to open spots. Drew said Golden State coaches also gave Radmanovich positive reviews.
“He’s a four that can really stretch the defense,” Drew said. “I did a lot of homework on him. With Joe’s ability to force double teams, having that four that can go out there and stretch it, it gives you an added weapon. Tracy is a really good passer and you put him with the ball in position where he can operate, teams have to collapse their defenses on him [too]. With Radmanovic, he’s a guy that lives at the 3-point line.”
Radmanovic is a 31 year old 6'10 tweener with no upside who infamously injured himself skiing during the season for LA. 2 notches above airhead, "Space Cadet" is 1 dimensional and is not the stretch 4 I was hoping for... But it seems that the Hawks are slowly towards Josh Smith as the "Power 3" + a stretch 4 + a defensive center. I guess that's the silver lining here.

Thabeet, Josh, Horford??

Even if he did clear waivers and IF no team under the cap wanted him. I'm just not seeing it.

Re: Why ATL Signed A Stretch 4 Instead of A Center
Really I do not get what is all this joke with LD coaching this team, in the first place.
Radmanovic a 4 who can shoot? Pfff... And what about defense? We are going to be killed when he plays defense down low against ANYBODY in this league.
JJ can attract double teams?. Of course he does. He usually has to improvise any kind of play because there is nothing prepared.
McGrady a wing who can play DL and then pass out of the double team? Sure. From what year are the videos McGray's agent sent to LD?
Please, all this is a joke.
The facts are:
- the people that will carry the load of this team will be JJ, Smith and Horford, with a bigger role for Teague, who is the only nice addition we have had in several years.
Probably we do not need to change that much, as our core is a really good one, but it is a pity that we do not get the maximum advantage of this group of players while they are at their tops. We are just one or two moves away from being great, taking for granted that we had a different coach.
- Crawford's scoring and improvising will be greatly missed.
- we continue lacking a real 5 who can attract defenders, force fouls, cause problems, make the defense collapse so other players can get any advantage, etc.
- while the contributions of JJ, Smith, Horford and Teague should be of a greater quality this season, our rivals just got better. Miami got Battier, Curry (who could cause some problems with his size) and they are not done doing trades. Chicago is exploring ways to maximize Rose's greatness. Possibly at our expense with Crawford. NY got Chandler and is getting new players. Boston is adding new pieces. Indiana is getting some nice help.
- Just Dalembert would have been great. Much better having Dalembert and then just fill the roster with some crap wing players from the D-League than getting McGrady, Radmanovic, etc and continue with Zaza and Collind and Horford at the 5.

Re: Why ATL Signed A Stretch 4 Instead of A Center
ATL did sign a center....His name is Jason Collins. Drafted one too......
This thread is created as though the Hawks went out, actively pursued and then dropped 10 million on a stretch 4 rather than sign any of the available Cs....
None worth a damn were within management's price and it's even more foolish as to pretend that the Radman will be starting and be a major contributor based on a little lip service by the Coach. Lol, name a Hawk signing that the coach hasn't talked up about the advantages of the player and how they'll help the team?
What? Were you expecting him to say "This was a terrible signing! I wanted a banger!" pleaaaaaaaase.

Of course no, because he is such a low profile coach that he has no authority to say anything. To managers, to players, to referees... pathetic.
I wish this could be much different, because I liked the guy when he was a player and I thought his new ideas would be good received. Nothnig of that happened.
We even do not need a banger. Just a intimidating player who can rebound, defend and score some baskets. Just a J. Collins with some more quality in offense.
But may be it would make no difference, because probably we will be playing small again, except when we get to the POs, LD discovers that are some centers around that can do soma damage, and then decides to play big and we all expect that everything is going to click with just to trainning sessions and a game...

Re: Why ATL Signed A Stretch 4 Instead of A Center
I dont think that the Hawks are saying "we got Radmanovich, looks like we are done and dont need a center" Therefore, i dont know what the problem is. They stated that they got him to spot up and shoot threes. He is very very good at that. they didnt overpay. whats the problem? he is a good addition to the team. im happy with the pick up as long as we are still looking for someone better than collins to be our starting center, and their is no indication that they have stopped
