Jays and White Sox Discussed Carlos Quentin Deal

Post#1 » by Wally West » Sun Dec 11, 2011 5:05 pm

The White Sox and Blue Jays have discussed a trade involving Carlos Quentin, tweets Jon Heyman of MLB Network. However, Heyman adds that talks appear to have cooled, as the White Sox are seeking other suitors.

With the White Sox looking to rebuild, Quentin is one of many veterans that could be had in the right deal this offseason. The Padres, Red Sox, and Orioles are among the teams reported to have had interest in the 29-year-old.

The Blue Jays and White Sox have already worked out one trade this offseason, swapping Sergio Santos and Nestor Molina during this week's Winter Meetings.

I wonder how Carlos Quentin would've fit into the fold and who we would've have to have given up. The deal would only make sense if he could play 1B. Or maybe he would've been involved in a bigger deal similar to when we acquired Edwin Jackson at the deadline.

You guys are good. I was just about to post this.

I am worried we would have overpaid for him so I am happy things did not work out.

He could play LF. Our left fielders are all mediocre and unproven.

Would of been a great addition, but we prob would given up too much. Plus I think I read, his contract may be up soon.

Yeah this is his last year of arbitration before he becomes an unrestricted free agent next season.

Going to be hard for them to prove themselves if we use him there. I think 1B is more lacking.

You sound like Cito. How are they supposed to prove if they're not given the opportunities to prove themselves? Quentin isn't really anything special, plus he'd be a one year rental.

danks, beckham and quentin as a package would really round out our roster.

....and a healthy carlos quentin is a moster!

If Beckham was included in the deal, it was prob around the time we were discussing deals with Santos and before KJ took arbitration. Plus I would pass on Danks...had this guy on my fantasy team last year, dude was terrible. By this time, I'm sure AA is going a different route.

I wonder if AA would consider Luke Scott if he's non-tendered. I know he's coming off of surgery, he's 4 years older and his fielding is not as good as Quentin's, but his offensive numbers are pretty similar and he has some experience playing first.

If he is non-tendered he wouldn't end up costing us prospects either. He might be worth a flier.
