I see some similarities to Favre's last team in Germany. One season they are the upcoming team. The next season, after they had to sell their most important players (*cough* Reuss *cough*) they'll be fighting to remain in the Bundesliga.

Maybe I'm just talking out of my ass but I wouldn't be surprised if it happened.

Bayern is just getting pwned in Mainz, FSV is leading 3-1 with 75 minutes played. Schweinsteiger has been such a loss for FCB, baffling that neither Kroos, Gustavo or Alaba can close the gap.

Munich played "Hosenscheißer-Fußball" the entire game.

Bayern has to remind itself that soccer (especially in Germany) is not only playing, but also hustling. Going out and honestly busting your a** is a good road to victory. NOT doing it is just asking for trouble.

Edit: Mainz had four players who ran more than 11 km yesterday (Baumgartlinger, Soto, Caligiuri, Pospech), Bayern only one (Alaba). Also, Boateng played a whopping 14 bad passes, van Buyten with 12 was almost as bad. In contrast, Dortmund regularly has players who break the 13 km barrier (Kagawa, Bender, Großkreutz).

Munich's defensive midfielders were horrible. They couldn't hold onto a ball. Boateng was horrible, too. He just isn't suited to play wing back. Müller was always alone on the right wing because Boateng would never consequently help him.

To be fair. 3 or 4 years down the road Dortmund's players will be physically out of order if they keep running that much.

Leverkusen buys loaned GK Bernd Leno for 8m until 2017. This means that Rene Adler (contract until 2012) will get the boot. Bitter ending for the guy who was the #1 German NT goalie until 2009, declined to sign a big contract, got into a string of injuries and never came back.

BL opportunities for Adler are rare: only HSV and maybe Bremen (if Wiese leaves) have gaps at GK. Classic example of an overconfident guy who overplayed his hand, see Hildebrand or Fromlowitz.

Bayern reduces Bremen to pile of rubble (4-1) and is tops again as BVB and Reus-less Gladbach play 1-1. If Schalke wins this evening, this will really push the top together.

Bayern stays on top after winning the "Südderby" 2-1 in Stuttgart. VfB livid after Molinaro is (rightfully) sent off after two idiotic fouls vs Robben. Schalke moves up as BVB only draws and Gladbach loses vs Augsburg.

Note: after 16 game days, the only club in the BL with less than 4 losses is Dortmund. Incredible how equal the league is...

Rumor of the day: Podolski to Schalke?

Did anyone hear Klopp's reaction when asked if he'd like to have Podolski on his team? Hilarious because it's true.

I imagine Podolski being unable to keep up his current level of play if/when he gets transferred to another club with much more media/fan pressure and/or higher expectations.

On another note, some beautiful goals this weekend. Sahan's equalizer vs. Dortmund was beautiful. I forgot another great one (I can only think of Pukki vs. Hertha but I'm sure there was another goal that was even better).

Why watch goals when you can watch a 0-0 draw Mainz vs. Hamburg? :-?
We had numberous chances but Caliguri and Choupo Moting were incapable of scoring buckets alone in front of Drobny. Schürrle is missed much here.
Only real chance Hamburg had was a free kick by Petric.

Bayern secures the X-Mas pole position by beating Cologne 3-0 - even after losing Ribery after half an hour with a red card. Dortmund and Schalke stay in Munich's slipstream after winning their games, Nuremberg gets an impressive away win vs Leverkusen.

Hot item of the day: Markus Babbel (Hertha) will "most likely" get the sack in Berlin. He is quite successful but the chemistry between him and manager Preetz is approaching toxic levels.

In the DFB Pokal, Kiel (3rd league) stuns Mainz 2-0. Gladbach beats Schalke, and both Dortmund and Bayern win hard fought games. Fürth wins the "Frankenderby" vs Nuremberg 1-0.
