Now I've never really seen the guy play or anything, but I'm not really sold on a "center" who's the same size and only 20 pounds heavier than our starting POINT GUARD...

That's probably the main problem.

Hayes has ridiculous lower body strength, quick feet, and a high BBIQ. He's more than capable of defending the league's premiere big men.

Actually this probably means that they are dead set on getting Daly now, because it sounded like it was Daly or Chandler they were targeting. Chandler is gone. They were going to look to keep Hayes if they got Gasol.

Though at the end of the day we still may end up with Hayes . I firmly believe that as long as the leauge keepa the CP3 trade vetoed with Houston involved to get Gasol that Houston will know offer Hayes even more money than we have . Had Hayes already had his mind set on taking our offer he would have accepted it by now .
I believe he is very conflicted between wich of the 3 teams he wants to play for SAC , HOU & MINN .
We will see how it plays out though .

Oh great, another undersized frontline player. I thought they learned their lesson with Kenny Thomas, Landry, etc. I like Hayes' aggressive physicality, but the team should be more concerned with picking up a C, as they have yet to re-sign Dally, and Cousins and JT are not full time solutions to the 5 position.

I wouldn't mind Hayes coming off the bench, but that is what JT is doing right now anyway, so this would only make sense if they plan on not retaining JT. I have been a critic of his, but last season he did show marked improvement as a reserve. I think he would be a better cheaper solution than Hayes.

Cousins is absolutely a center guys. He's a center that can also play some PF, but he's got a massive wingspan and a ton of strength. He's fine at center.

And besides, we can hope that Whiteside's going to be ready.

No he can't defend Howard. The problem in Houston is that he's not really a center, he's a PF. He's probably one of the best, if not the best defensive PF's in the league however. But with Houston we alrdy have a good PF with Scola and an up and coming backup in Patterson so our use for him is limited.

Don't count on him to defend the very tall, strong, athletic type centers but he can certainly defend any PF in the game and even some shorter centers. As long as he has a solid shot blocking presence in the paint next to him he's a great asset. Good signing IMO.

He and Cousins will do well against Howard, I was impressed with Cuz' defense on Howard last year. Cousins met length for length and strength for strength.
