I wish they would let Eric Snow go. Total d-bag, IMO. I wanted to smack him a few times last season.

As for next year's offseason, I will be awfully glad to have all kinds of cap space. At least get yourself in the mix by default. Good stuff.

My only worry is that...let's say if they strike out with the top FAs. Now, with the new rule of having to reach that minimum, that the FO will force themselves to hand a huge contract ONCE AGAIN to another Brand/Josh Smith type FA and we're back stuck in this ball of utter mediocrity.

I'm afraid.

That's exactly what I'm afraid of as well, P2K. It seems like we are wishing upon a star with these big named free agents which are highly unlikely to sign here. I would much rather take my chances in the draft.

Any chance they try to take advantage of the chaos in Houston? The Rockets have already tried to move Martin and Scola twice. Last I read the players were told sit tight and not report to camp.

I know they had Martin interest but not sure if his contract is any better than Iguodala's. Havent heard anything but Thorn would I think at least investigate all scenarios. Due dilligence etc.

As for Scola, not sure where he would fit. Given their current team.

Scola could give us everything that Speights couldn't...although I have no idea what Houston would want in return (other than Iguodala).

Martin's contract looks like its a year shorter. Wouldnt mind adding some scoring to this team. I'm not sure what the Sixers interest is in trading Brand or Iguodala though

Just saw Kwame signed a 1 year deal with Golden State. I'm personally relieved.

Yea now we can focus on going forward with this all star team! I literally can't believe this front office isn't looking to make any more moves.

Sixerfan, any truth to the talk of Kaman being flipped here for Speights, Hawes, Noc?

Kaman will try I bet to work on a buy out if possible. But in the end, I suspect the Hornets will hold on to him, see if a team suffers a Center Injury, and see if they can't flip him down the road.

What talk? I would be a huge fan of this deal, fill our biggest weakness with an expiring contract for two end of the bench players and a guy who has limited upside.

Are the Sixers still trying to buy out Nocioni?

We could probably use the roster spot.

I'd save it for later since it's good for 6 years. Nocioni is expiring after this year anyways, and could possibly be moved by trade deadline?

A buy out is different from using the amnesty clause. I agree they should save the amnesty clause because without it the Sixers can't be players in the 2012 free agent market. But the roster presently has 18 players on it. When the season begins they'll only be able to keep 15. Some of the guys in camp are just warm bodies for practice, but the Sixers have a pretty solid 14 guys that will be on the team. That'll leave only one spot open for a developmental guy like Xavier Silas.

More importantly, reports are Nocioni really doesn't want to be in Philly, and it is unlikely that he'll get much playing time. He doesn't really figure into the team's future and is pretty much assuredly gone after this season. Why not work a buyout and let him move on while saving a little money and opening up a roster spot?

A realistic scenario (to me, anyway):

Sixers finish 41-25, good enough for 4th in the Eastern Conference. The team starts out strong, led by Andre Iguodala, who helps the team stay around 1st place in the Atlantic, and earns himself his first ASG appearance. In the first round of the playoffs, they beat the 5th seed Orlando Magic in 6 games, before eventually losing to the eventual World Champion Chicago Bulls in the EC semis.

Next summer, Mo Speezy is gone (if he isn't gone next week), Nocioni rolls off the books...same for Hawes...they choose to use their amnesty clause to get out of the last year of Brand's deal, giving this young, exciting, up-and-coming team the cap room to give a max contract to Dwight Howard.

Possible?

If Orlando doesn't improve and Iguodala, Holiday, and Turner all elevate their games this season then I'd say its entirely possible. Not sure how great our odds are, but as SixersFTW reminded in another thread, Howard apparently likes Iguodala's game and is buddies with Jrue. If we take another step forward this season, then he might have to consider us as an option. I personally believe the following lineup could be a serious title contender with a wide window:

Howard/Vucevic
Young/Brackins/Vet FA
Iguodala/Young/Turner
Meeks/Turner
Holiday/Williams
