Grizzlies, Pacers McRoberts For Mayo.. Really!

Grizzlies, Pacers Resume McRoberts For Mayo Discussions :o :-?

Guys, I no this is iff topic but I don't understand this one? ZaZa > McRoberts ~ maybe
He'd be a great replacement for JJ if he starts to slip this year and teamed with Teague could be a good backcount or at least a great guy to come off the bench.

Yeah, I'm really surprised that the Grizz would even entertain dealing Mayo for McRoberts. I'd say Rolle has more upside that McRoberts.

McRoberts is an athletic PF/C who can play both positions, play hard and tough which is all Memphis wants from their backup center anyway.

Mayo is an extremely talented PG who needs to play the position full time. I hate his fit in Memphis and playing SG is not a good position for him in the NBA. He can use his size and triple threat to create space for his offense at PG which he couldn't do at SG. I think they are getting a 1st for his as well, Memphis that is.

It's not about upside. It's about fit. McRoberts fits Memphis. They are not looking for talent and skill. Just athletic ability and toughness from their backup C in which he can play both PF/C.

I'd think that Mayo could net more than McRoberts especially from a team like Chicago.

Mayo is only 6'4 and defensively suspect. CHI without a trade could probably hide it. But you would not "give up" defense and depth, ie Taj Gibson just to sign OJ. Thats going all in on a guy who might be undersized.

#1) you underestimate McRoberts. He was injured and underachieved at Duke, but he's worked hard to make himself a contributor at the NBA level. They also got Brandon Rush in the deal. Mayo would have walked at the end of the season and with the return of Gay to the rotation might not of had a role on the team that would have showcased him for better offers.

#2) The Pacers might have passed the Hawks in terms of roster for this season. Roy Hibbert, David West, Danny Granger, OJ Mayo and Darren Collison with a bench of Jeff Foster, Tyler Hansbrough, Paul George, Dahntay Jones, and George Hill. They are deep, young, and talented. Add in AJ Price if healthy and some more rotation bigs and they could challenger Chicago for the division.

#3) If you want to go off-topic, you can start your subject with OT - and then no one should complain about the thread (standard RealGM notation observed over the years). We're Hawks fans but that doesn't mean we don't have opinions of things going on around the league or in general, especially trades that could affect our standing in the East. If you only want Hawks discussion you just don't click on anything starting with OT.

Chicago is in desperate need of a legit shooting guard; they've been targeting Mayo for a year now. The Bulls would give away some deph in Taj Gibson (who by the way would likely be leaving anyway at the end of his Contract because the Bulls would have to choose between him and Omer Asik) for the Shooting Guard they've been looking for, and for the SG that would get them over the hump.

Evidently the reports were premature. I now read that the trade is on hold waiting on a decision from Jamal Crawford about Indiana. Mayo is the fallback plan to signing Jamal Crawford? Confusing.

You basically summed it up, Dallas. Most boards on this site discuss everything related to the league, but when "OT" things are posted here, I noticed that someone always seems to not like it.

Mayo for McRoberts nearly happened last year before the trade deadline. What held it up was that all the terms of the trade hadn't been completed and the deadline passed. It should be no surprise that the two teams started it back up.
